If you like these movies you'll like our game.
A month out from launch, we're releasing the BIG HOPS documentary about the game's 6 year journey.
It covers Hop's origin, growing the team, navigating a tough design space, bringing it all together, getting dropped by our publisher, Kickstarting, and more!

the impossible number of games that release on Steam every day has been discourse for years
why would anybody want to play a game nobody could be bothered to make
I love consumption sold as creation
can't imagine even proposing such a thing as a good, safe business solution

Cover of the book "The Martian" by Andy Weir
Finished Andy Weir's "The Martian". It was a smooth read with a very likable and human main character. The diary formula here works nicely, a couple of times, it may feel unnatural, but it serves as the hero's tool to stay sane and optimistic.
Now, it's time for Artemis
From: Cannon Fodder (1995), dir. Katsuhiro Otomo, Studio 4Β°C
This film was designed to flow without hard cuts -- the camera just goes and goes and goes
the teleport gun in my new game lets you build a bridge from here to there. find a better path to your objective maybe

I love solving the puzzle βwhat choice would this character make?β, especially in Witcher, where I was trying to recreate Geralt based on his experience from books. Also I love thinking my every action is the story (not counting my everything dragonborn) Thank god thereβs enough games for both of us
in these weird actions in Kojima games Iβve always seen solution to another kind of ludonarrative dissonance: how to show complex serious story if player acts weird? Kojima found a way, letβs make main character act weird (loved all the random actions Sam did in Death Stranding)
About games doing it well: RDR2 made it greatly with low-honor Arthur dialogues, Dishonored had side characters despising Corvo if he killed massively, Spec Ops the Line in the end had literally a villain-like hero, Metro Exodus made fishermen calm when approached if player didnβt attack them before
Also history shows, that you can be a mass killer accepted by the society, so less shooting/killing isnβt always the case to make game more consonant between story and gameplay. Yet in most cases, the amount of killing makes the story kind of grotesque.
About ludo-narrative dissonance, I think, what some players want are narrative/story games with world reacting to eventual mass murder of the main character. Of course, not everywhere it will work, bc not every game has to be story driven (plus fighting as a mechanic is fun).
Less shooting, free, for everyone, and let no one be forgotten!

This style of light doesn't really appear in animation anymore. You know it when you see it -- it's bright, hot and almost dangerous.
Our new issue explores the tricks behind it, and how one artist has revived the look for the digital age: animationobsessive.substack.com/p/dangerous-...
πCan you spot the reference to a certain 90s anime series hidden somewhere in this clip? π
