Amazon Prime Video has just given an eight-episode first season order for a live-action adaption of the comic book Sex Criminals by Matt Fraction and Chip Zdarsky. The first issue of Sex Criminals came out in 2013 and there have been attempts to adapt it before. None have taken off, likely because…well, the title is very literal. It’s about a couple named Suzie and Jon who discover that, for unexplained reasons, time stops whenever they make whoopee. Since they’re not above theft, they realize they can exploit this to steal pretty much anything, starting with the vaults in the bank Jon works at. They’ve just, y’know, gotta do it naked and post-coitus, then quickly put their clothes back on before time snaps back to its normal rhythm. There is no getting out of the NC-17-ness of such a premise, especially if you’re doing it in live-action. It was probably turned down at other studios for that reason. Today Nintendo put out more information regarding their plans to add a Virtual Boy section to their Switch Online service. The news was surprising enough on its own, but it’s now become even wilder: titles that were announced for the system back in 1996 but went unreleased will be part of the library. When the Virtual Boy section goes live on February 17. it will contain the following games: Galactic Pinball Teleroboxer RED ALARM Virtual Boy Wario Land 3-D Tetris Golf The Mansion of Innsmouth Believe it or not, that last one is a first-person survival horror game released only in Japan. If you don’t know what Faces of Death is — and hey, despite how old I am, I didn’t even know until recently — it’s a time capsule of the early video rental market, the kind of thing that could only happen in a young industry dominated by mom and pop VHS shops that could be stocking anything in the shadows (or behind a beaded curtain in some cases). It was the ultimate forbidden fruit, a salacious clamshell with an ominous logo and a grinning skull, but little else besides the rumors about it: was it really possible to rent a snuff film? Today Nintendo put out more information regarding their plans to add a Virtual Boy section to their Switch Online service. The news was surprising enough on its own, but it’s now become even wilder: titles that were announced for the system back in 1996 but went unreleased will be part of the library. When the Virtual Boy section goes live on February 17. it will contain the following games: Galactic Pinball Teleroboxer RED ALARM Virtual Boy Wario Land 3-D Tetris Golf The Mansion of Innsmouth Believe it or not, that last one is a first-person survival horror game released only in Japan.
