Depends on the type of games you want to make. For all sorts of games, Unity and Godot are good starters. For specific genres, you have ones like RPGMaker, Renpy and much more.

I did say it as a possibility not what is actually happening. Also not an argument but commentary on something that is weirdly interesting. As a dev this interests me because of the supposed limitations.
The big wars are over, but I suspect the number of them will increase overtime as new players enter via crowdfunding schemes.
Perhaps the upcoming Nintendo Direct might launch alongside updated policy, so we (customers and devs) know exactly what they're thinking. Though, I do suspect this is a policy shift.
True (usually violent games, like MK1), but AD Hoc were happy with it and besides the customers, the devs themselves were happy with the compromise. Also, this could be a lead up to new dev policy from Nintendo which... is gonna be interesting.
While true, I can see it as Nintendo making extra sure that children (which is the target audience for Nintendo) will not get exposed to it. Even with ratings we know children get access to M+ rated material. Though... maybe they could've had it all on by default? Seems like AdHoc were fine with it
The power of unfettered optimism!
Er... Nintendo does realise that Sonic is one of the fastest characters in fiction right? Mario is strong but he isn't known fot his speed.
A few times in #Unity I've missed some basic syntax for a function I clearly know, and have to scrawl through so much just to find I misspelled a function in the wrong case ("dosomething" instead of "DoSomething"). Really annoying.
The falsehoods + other untoward uses of AI proliferate the entire world. Barely any uses of AI are seen as "good". Of course, there are good uses of AI, but they are the exception, not the rule. So no Mr. Huang, we will keep our "Doomer Narrative."

Interesting. SDFs as an inherent part of an engine can bring a whole host of innovations.
Thanks for the reply. Any way, good luck with the release. Hope it does as well or better than your expectations.
Does the skeleton shopkeeper have a name? Or can we name em?
Retro and lower end gaming is "potentially" where it's at.
it’s difficult to reflect on the year when you’re in the weeds of game development, even post-launch of Toroa: Skycall it still hasn’t really hit us that the game is out there for the world to play, but little things like seeing this footage from 2 years ago does help it sink in a little bit 🥹

Thanks everyone for the support/likes for this comment! It's blown me away, how this has been received. ❤️ 👍 Clearly I struck a chord that resonates with many of you.
That isn't currently the case. At all. What is being seen is negative reactions to AI in general (whether disclosed or not). This is a clear push back against AI (mainly GenAI), not transparency (which people actually appreciate). If you lie in business and are found out, most times you're over.
Perhaps you don't understand the dev cycle or transparency? I'm an actual dev running my own company. Transparency is one of the pillars of my biz ops, as it is many others (but not all) in my country of NZ. Also, the devs of E33 were obfuscating, with vague, mixed messaging.
Agreed. While I would be happy to see GenAI used as placeholders in studios (mine doesn't need to, since placeholders are easy to create or grab for low cost), the low transparency is marring their image. A shame.
Surprising they still have money to burn after acquiring DC/WB.
This is deserving then, especially as the devs were not transparent when asked. Disappointing, as proper disclosure would've made an open and shut case.

Yet disclosure is exactly what is needed. Without transparency - a level of trust - any confidence in studios and the wider industry falls apart.
This has gotta be one of the cutest, jankiest and weirdest things I have seen in a while. Somehow... it's amazing! Jingle bells on flute (or recorder, sounds like) is rough going. Condolences to the audience.
Try out a few variations and go with what you feel works best. This is always a process.
It could be transparent? Or perhaps have a small sprite that animated with the description? Food for thought!
Tautoko ❤️. Hope it sells faster than hangi at the market!
Agreed. Even the most straightforward mechanics can take hundreds of hours to perfect, yet none of that is shown, unless we do a behind the scenes.
So at most, with the trailers, TGA get about $20 to $30 million (assuming about 20 trailers)? And that's not including ticket sales, cost to get bands/orchestra up or even special guests? Very interesting.
And I just watched a recent interview of his, where he seems quite unsure of himself. Hope he has a good rest then. Deserves it after directing this franchise for decades.
