To my comrades, please read, speak with the people in your life. We must set the foundation of socialism and some day communism, so that someday we can defeat fascism with our minds and hearts as one. Each person that sees us as people and not something to be feared is a comrade in waiting.

I challenge you to learn what you believe thoroughly and that you disavow the ahistorical suppositions of the American educational system. I hope that you can overcome the horrible reality of what has been done in the name of our freedom and I hope too that it drives you toward change.

So to those that read this from the center. I propose that you disallow the “devil’s advocate” of your friend group or workplace from their dastardly attempts to normalize their true feelings.

This is especially poignant when you know that you have impressionable people around. You must become a thespian for good. Perform deftly and act with confidence because the greatest fear of an idiot with an opinion is embarrassment.

Histories that they are attempting to bastardize. So when that co-worker says something ridiculous and ahistorical it is your duty to fight back. Not to disrupt them or change their mind, but to give voice to those that do not speak up for fear of the bullying tactics promoted by the right.

Liberalism has never defeated fascism alone because it cannot. The only way to defeat fascism is with an ideological backbone and the nerve to disrupt the status quo. There is no one coming to save us. Why? Because we have bullied, beaten, and coup-ed the world into submission over the last hundred years and now we don’t have the stomach for what our country has done. We killed all of the movements that were naturally opposed to fascism.

I have seen too many comments like “I’m ashamed of what my country has become” and “someone please help us” and I can’t help but to wonder why they think these things. Like, when is it too much? When will you just do something? When will you speak up in your daily life? When will you call bullshit?

Finally, I am really sad to see tragedy befall one of my fav mutants Northstar. Though I am excited to see where the series goes I can definitely see some problematic areas for the future. All-in-all, it is always good to read new x men stories and I really enjoy the characters. (9/9)

Even though the current students were not there the specter of tragedy still loomed, and that resonated with me, as a person who grew up in the age of school shooting drills and countless tragedies across the United States. (8/9)

Next is the surprisingly heartbreaking saga of a mutant child, killed during an attack on the X-Mansion years prior. This rang through with commentary on the role of students to carry on after a mass casualty event. (7/9)

After that conflict Surge comments again during the New “Hellions” vs New “New Mutants” fight in issue #6. This sort of gets dropped after an agree to disagree moment happens between the two characters at the end of the issue. I am interested in seeing if that picks back up later in the book. (6/9)

Surge criticizes Dust for wearing a Burka, claiming that she is being controlled by men and giving up her freedom as a woman. This sentiment is echoed even today, when people speak about the people of the Middle East. Sometimes even to justify Western Violence against Arab nations. (5/9)

But it wasn’t the same overt racism-to-make-a-point of the past (see Kitty in God Loves, Man Kills) that resonated with me. The interaction between Surge and Dust in the early issues is very important. Here we see a progressive feminist in Surge, questioning Dust for wearing her Burka. (4/9)

I guess I resonated more with the Academy X kids because they felt closer to me. They dealt with Islamophobia because of conflicts in the Middle East, racism and sexism when choosing leaders for teams, and even the teachers were more diverse than the traditional Prof. X and the gang lineup. (3/9)

The intentional addition of characters like Dust, Surge, and Prodigy were important to the formula of the school type teams. The student teams have always sought to represent modern issues through the lens of their more diverse, youthful members. (2/9)

Today I want to talk about my recent read of issues #1-13 of Academy X. They are arguably the most diverse crew of students and really deserve more recognition for their run. Though some of their handling of contemporary issues (Islamophobia, racism, sexism, etc…) is very 2000’s (1/9)

I am going to use this account to talk about comic books and also communism if that’s alright with everyone.
