I say this as a Very Busy Mom™️ who has little time in this phase of parenting to hang w friends as much as I would like or even stay reliably in touch with my own social world. And I’m chill compared to the norms of my mom-peers! It’s buck wild.
It’s not like I’m doing nothing, but I really resent the childhood-as-resume-building pressures and constant business and the stress it adds to kids and parents (/often moms) who coordinate and drive and get pulled into unpaid labor! When do you rest and play, ma’am!
Turns out my biggest hobby in middle age is lovingly yelling at fellow working middle aged moms, begging them to do less and volunteer less and sign kids up for less stuff and instead…hang out and enjoy life and family? I feel very passionately about this!!!
