Image of patterns in the sand in the intertidal zone. The sandscape fills the image, and there are regular wave patterns in it. For a sense of scale there are two white shells in one of the divots in the sand.
Yes I'm the weirdo that goes to the beach for the patterns #BraggYourPattern
Mean! but also excellent
I suspect they would be eaten before some could work out the wallpaper group :)
The GingerBread Instruments is back after last year hiatus (blame on flamingos).
#chemchat, can you determine the wallpaper group?

If you'd like to celebrate the biology of viruses - or the fight against viral diseases - this winter, try out our free and updated #VirusSnowflake designs.
Please share, and if you have any photos of Virus Snowflakes in your area it would be lovely to see them!

This looks an amazing resource for STEM, crystallography is a cross-discipline adventure!
Another one for #BraggYourPattern
And here we have our Fourier transform nr. 58! As far as I'm concerned, perhaps the most enigmatic and unexpected spectrum so far... anyway, quite a spectacle! #BraggYourPattern #Fouriertransform #crystallography

Mesmerizing!
A bit of an #outreach win today - orders from Flinders Island, a remote island off the coast of Tasmania, for both a Crystal Explorer Kit (for their primary students) and an Elements Set (for their secondary students)! #elementsets #crystallography #ozchem #BraggYourPattern

A nearly isotropic pattern of lines irradiating from the centre. The colour scheme is a fresh combination of teal, light violet and blue on a white background.
Time for a new 57th entry in my #Reciprocart gallery! This time we look at the frequency spectrum of a Hyperbolic tiling of triangles π Unsurprisingly (for the experienced) it's a bunch of lines... but the hexagonal symmetry is visible if one looks close enough π§ #crystallography #Braggyourpattern

Picture shows a painting from a wall at a hotel, It depicts fish that are stylised so that they geometrically fit as tiles. Fish in the background are black and while and are tightly packet together - in front of these are similar style fish but these are coloured in - green bodies and orange fins and tails.
Still making my mind up if this is a good #BraggYourPattern or not - nice nod to Escher, but sort of annoys me the colour fish are sitting above the tiled layer!
A manhole cover, where dots on a square grid are smoothly deviating from the square lattice, resembling a phonon in a crystal.
Someone in Verona decided to make "phonon-ish manhole covers" - Approved ππ» #Braggyourpattern
A difference Fourier map shows red blobs surrounded by green-red-green etc. ripples, in an overall triangular symmetric pattern.
When diffraction data has low resolution you can always make some Rorschach Tests out of it. #crystallography #Braggyourpattern
An aperiodic tiling formed by the intersection of two square tilings of squares, one tilted by 43Β° with respect to the other. Many shapes are visible, diamonds, triangles, irregular octagons, and many other.
In case someone was wondering about the origin of those frequences... π I admit this is pretty challenging to decipher in terms of real-space to reciprocal-space relationship, without knowing know how it is made. #FourierTransform #Crystallography #Braggyourpattern
An image of the contents of a box of science communication equipment. There are eight boxes of crystal explorer kit, a tube with some mineral samples, a USB microscope, 3D printed Einstein tiles, freebies puzzles and of course a big bag of jubes (gelatine sweets) and toothpicks.
Setting out today on a road-trip with the prototype 'Crystal-A-Con in a box', all you need to keep 50 exciable primary school kids #Crystallographically entertained and informed for an hour at a time??? Wish us luck!!
