Did you know there was not only a Cinderella II but a Cinderella III also? I do, because my daughter begged me to buy the Blu-Ray for Β£2 in CeX and to watch them later today…

The notion that The Testament of Ann Lee (I film I have not yet seen) will not get a physical media release has made me inordinately determined to acquire it on physical media. Have we ruled out the idea this is all an elaborate ruse?

Did a spit-take with my coffee over "flat-cap beard fannies with shit accents", so bravo on that.

It’s incomparable to state how decrypted those sentences are. Absolutory abyssal.

(This is a prime example of people assessing the film's politics and not the filmmaking, which is Very Bad)

Seeing folk praising 2073 and I will not have it. A filmmaker I like. A message and world view I'm broadly in alignment with. However, it is an incoherent and terribly made film, which garbles its points and window-dresses itself with tactlessly repurposed real-life atrocities and tragedies.

Check out all our coverage from @glasgowfilmfest.bsky.social. It's proving to be a great festival and we have more reviews to come. #GFF26

I enjoyed this, mainly because a) it fits directly in the niche of films I'm predisposed to like and b) Sam Rockwell is the absolute spot-on choice for this. I don't think it will live long in the collective memory, but it's entertaining and has something to say, even if it's not entirely new.

I liked Wuthering Heights more than Saltburn. But I still did not like Wuthering Heights, which retains the same vapid faux-edginess its director seems to be making her trademark.

Any decent outlet would point out that this sounds like the CEO of Particle6, Eline van der Velden, playing the saddest, shittest, most expensive game of The Sims ever conceived. Fucking tragic nonsense.

The regularity with which I say β€œpeople with too many keys etc” to quickly refer to making up a problem where there isn’t one is probably way out of proportion to how many people get the reference tbh.

Gambling advertising should absolutely go the same way as tobacco advertising, let alone within sport. It’s absolutely depressing to see so much football sponsorship reliant on this. If we must operate as fans in a capitalist hellscape, can we at least turn the temperature down?!

This is such a succinct but perfectly expressed breakdown of why the BAFTA situation was such a clusterfuck that neither BAFTA nor the BBC emerge well from.

It’s amazing to me how many folk in a country will pontificate about other ones and β€˜regime change’ when so many cannot locate their own one on a map, have perhaps never left it, and frequently think entire continents are single countries.

As someone who has never liked em-dashes* long before the current A.I. boom, the notion they have become a supposed hallmark of LLM writing is fantastic news.
(*I don’t really have a good reason, tbh.)

Going to use this at work when I next have to deal with an asshole. β€œLook, I know it’s tough, but we need to try and get the best return on our distressed human assets…”

It’s not even that little - the US supplement industry is like a $100Bn market full of about 90% woo-woo bullshit.

Between the actual film as presented in trailers etc and the extra-textual stuff around the film’s production and casting, I could not be less interested in Scream 7.

For all the (deserved) flack that Blatter and his cronies got, I think it has been more than clear for some time that Infantino is worse. FIFA, frankly, is beyond saving, at least in its current form. If you want proper change, the whole governance of global football needs burnt to the ground.

Terminator 2 is great…but…I’m surprised how in the context of the series I’m more ambivalent about its legacy. A little bit like that other famous James Cameron product, Aliens, the series itself took all the wrong lessons from this film. You can see the nucleation points in here of what goes wrong.

We said we'd be back.

This film has loads of literature on it so we get into quite a few different readings of the film in this episode particularly around representations of masculinity and femininity.

Part of this has to be the insane app-ification of all aspects of your life, especially if you're in your mid 20s or younger and it's nearly always been a thing. Logging everything: location, films, books, music, travel, dinners, health stuff, blah, blah. If you didn't log it, did it even happen?

If they’re doing film based food someone missed an opportunity to just boil fifty eggs, insist they’re eaten within the hour and have done with it.

Gianluca Prestianni ban: Thibaut Courtois says Vinicius Jr's celebration does not justify racist abuse Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois says Vinicius Jr's celebration against Benfica in last week's Champions League tie does not

I can't say anything about this Benfica racism situation that hasn't already been said, but I think Courtois's best quote here is simply when he says, β€œI think we have to be less stupid as a society.”
