Ik heb z’n retrospectief uit 2003 in één band maar is kennelijk heruitgegeven in meerdere delen.

Daar had hij bij z’n short stories geen last van. Die zijn overigens erg de moeite waard als je van science fiction houdt.

Nou zijn meest kritische fans zijn extreem kritisch hoor. Het succes (en het afgeraffelde einde) van de TV serie hebben ook niet geholpen. Hij heeft zichzelf in een hoek geschreven, dat is waar. Maar de externe druk is ook groot, het zal elkaar versterken vrees ik.

Wat hij ook schrijft, een grote groep rabiate ‘fans’ gaat het luidkeels afkraken. Dus hij heeft feitelijk niks te winnen bij het afmaken ervan. Misschien laat hij het publiceren na z’n dood maar ik verwacht eigenlijk van niet. Het is wat het is.

Uit de tijd dat George R.R. Martin verhalen nog afmaakte…
