I'd be happy if they did nothing rather than vote for the Republican bill as they did in March.

If a government tells you that you can’t call it authoritarian, it’s authoritarian.

A stacked bar chart of YouGov polling data with the headline: "Older adults and those without college degrees are more likely to say humanity already knows most or all about history."

The chart's sub-headline is: "For each of the following fields of study, out of everything possible to be known, how much do you think humanity has already discovered? [History] (% of U.S. adult citizens)."

The chart has the note: "Note: "Most or all" includes responses of "most," "almost all," and "everything." "Some or nothing" includes responses of "some", "almost nothing," and "nothing.""

Of special interest to me and @bretdevereaux.bsky.social, among others, history is middle of the pack β€” similar shares of Americans say humanity knows most/all of what there is to know about history, and that we know little or nothing.

How views of how much humanity knows about history break down:

So...how much does it cost to fly every general officer to one place? I mean, seems like a thing you wouldn't want to do if it was free, but it isn't.

As awful as things are right now, I think it's important to understand that there are more decent ppl than there are awful ppl. Don't let the awful ppl out of your sight don't stop calling them out but mostly don't let them think there's more of them than decent ppl.

Cutting Medicaid means costs are shifted to providers. When patients lose coverage, they turn to ERs for care they can’t afford. Hospitals eat the cost, pass it on to insurers, and your premiums go up.

Medicaid cuts mean a worse health care system for EVERYONE.

Before the Senate votes on Trump’s Tax Scam, there will be a β€œvote-a-rama.” This is when senators can propose endless changes that their colleagues then need to vote on.

You probably have some creative ideas for amendments. Submit them now to help keep vote-a-rama going for as long as possible. πŸ‘‡

I hope the leadership that is left can hold the line against internal and external political pressure that pushes for actions that create unacceptable risks.

I also hope everyone understands why the wildland fire community will not be able to meet expectations this year. 5/5

We'll exhaust resources sooner because there will be fewer of them. This will result in overextension of IMTs and little recovery time for folks between assignments. It will also influence decision-making as the lack of resources will force more indirect strategies. 4/

One way we make sense of the fire year is by the preparedness level scale. It would not surprise me at all if we end up shifting the PL numbers so that what would have been a PL4 in years past becomes a PL5 this year because of lack of personnel. 3/

23.05.2025 18:58 πŸ‘ 23 πŸ” 5 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 1

More confidence in saying that as of now, approximately 1,600 fire-qualified federal employees are no longer on the job. That includes a lot of experienced leadership and support positions. 2/

So, the numbers are still fuzzy as to how many incident management teams-the folks who manage large and long lasting wildland fires-cannot be supported this year, but it seems we'll be down at least 5-6. I suspect when we get to PL4 and PL5, the number of actual staffed teams will dwindle more. 1/

Right? You nailed it. This isn’t just about low-income folks; it impacts parents, families, & young adults who fall through the cracks. Medicaid steps in when jobs or private insurance leave people hanging. Gutting it hurts way more than most realize. #SaveMedicaid

I tell you, Assolini's supporters are getting different news than you are. They've been told he's the best thing since sliced bread! 47 has stopped a nuclear war; made China blink first; brought Saudi $ to the US; brought grocery prices down; rid the US of immigrant criminals. It's all in the spin!

500 Billion from Medicare. And it passed in the House. It starts in Jan 2026. That's how they destroyed Social Security. They knew they couldn't take OUR money so Medicare will be so costly now it will eat up our monthly Social Security checks. Somebody please end this!

That means some of the most vulnerable Americans – families, the elderly, folks with disabilities – won’t be able to get the lifesaving treatment, medication, or care they need. These are people you know. Reach out to your senators now to let them know how much this will impact you.

Right now, Republicans in Congress are trying to push through a bill that would put millions of Americans at risk of losing their health care.

They want to cut federal funding for Medicaid, take away tax credits that help more people afford coverage, and raise costs for working class families.

New head of Social Security, hired from Wall Street, tells staff he had to Google the job when he was offered it Newly sworn-in Social Security chief Frank Bisignano, who previously was a Wall Street executive, told staffers he had to Google the SSA job when it was offered to him.

β€œWhat the heck’s the commissioner of Social Security?"

That's a real question from Frank Bisignano...the commissioner of Social Security.

Millions of Americans depend on Social Security. They should be able to trust that the head of the agency even knows what the job is.

The cuts Republicans are pushing will come from SNAP, Medicaid, and Medicareβ€”all while funneling another tax break to billionaires like Elon Musk. That is what House Democrats are fighting against, and we won’t stop.
