Benito is a threat b/c he makes art so alluring and enjoyable you want to understand everything about it and then you end up learning about sugar and slavery and colonialism and the TaΓnos and Hawaii and then you probably have some thoughts of your own, and that's why art is powerful and dangerous
Young Anton Chekhov, the playwright, looking super hot in his 20s
Wait, THIS is young Anton Chekhov? This? Good lord. Let that gun go off, daddy
Presumably, while watching the womenβs figure skating at the Olympics, Lady Catherine de Bourgh (Barbara Leigh-Hunt) says, βIf I had ever learnt, I should be a true proficient.β From Pride and Prejudice (1995).
All of us during the Olympics:
Title page for Jane Austenβs βPride and Prejudice: a novel in three volumes. By the author of Sense and Sensibility. Vol I London: printed by T. Egerton, 1813β
Happy 213th anniversary to Pride and Prejudice! A book so good some people have read it twice!
Bleed, bleed, poor country!
Great tyranny, lay thou thy basis sure,
For goodness dare not check thee; wear thou thy wrongs,
The title is affeerβd!
ICE love to murder people whose last words are things like "I'm not mad at you" or "are you ok?"
Minnesotans are really setting the blueprint for fighting fascism. They are being shot dead in the street and still they come out to protect their people. They continue to document, to alert neighbors, to buy and drop off groceries. Everyday. May we all be so brave
It is a truth universally acknowledged that ICE are a bunch of goose-stepping cowardly little bitches.
Image of Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy in Pride and Prejudice (1995) looking off camera at Lizzy as she tells him he's the last man in the world she could ever be prevailed upon to marry (sure, Lizzy). Below is a tweet by @wwxwashere "if you see me being yelled at by a beautiful woman, leave it. i'm exactly where i want to be."
Moby Dick CHAPTER 54. The Town-Ho's Story.
Ishmael heard about your mom π
Hey Jane Austen novel Pride and prejudice and knuckles
Is their ship name Queemael or Ishqueg?
if any crave redress of injustice, they should exhibit their petitions in the street
1,000,000% agree
Northanger deserves a truly great adaptation with a director who really goes for it. I also think it is the one Austen novel that would benefit from an expanded B and C story. The 80s version is bananas and I love it for that reason, but I want that energy plus an auteur treatment.
People are not ready for my opinions on Jennifer Ehle. Lol, jk, couldnβt even do it for the joke.
I yearn for the days of leaving passive aggressive song lyrics as an AIM away message
I was surprised at how funny it was!
Thatβs totally fair. I really enjoyed it, but I took it very slow and read a lot of annotated content alongside the book. I donβt know that I would have liked it without the added context. That being said, I definitely had to set it down a few times and get away from all the whale facts π
We are talking young Robert Redford levels of hotnessβ¦
I am once again asking you to please imagine Edmund Bertram as the sexiest man you know the story doesnβt make sense otherwise
Would love to join!

Meme of man walking with girlfriend but looking at other woman. Man: Melville, girlfriend: the plot, other woman: whale anatomy facts.
Gina from Brooklyn 99 dancing with headphones on, oblivious to the commotion behind her. Gina: Ahab, the commotion: dozens of omens and prophecies
Mac from Itβs Always Sunny hands Dennis a plate. In the next photo Dennis throws the plate away. Mac: 19th century literary structure, the plate: denouement, Dennis: Melville.
I made some Moby Dick memes, if anyone wants to share them with their favorite harpooneer.
Just read Moby Dick for the first time. I wish I could draw some parallels between whatβs happening today and a megalomaniacal captain, who ignores pleas for common sense, only to chase after something that isnβt a problem, and leads everyone to disaster. Iβll think on it some more.
