Mesolithic not universally accepted... hmm, I must have spent a good part of my academic career studying a phantom.

Great to see this paper come out! I usually work with teeth and bone fragments β beautiful in their own way of course, but these amazing #Amazonian objects from the Trombetas are on another level. It was a privilege to be involved in their study.

Declining marine resource use over five centuries of human adaptation on GuanahanΓ (San Salvador), The Bahamas
Very happy to see this paper come out on GuanahanΓ, The Bahamas. doi.org/10.1016/j.qu...
Many thanks to colleagues Mary Jane Berman, Grace Turner and Joanna Ostapkowicz for all their hard work helping to bring this to fruition. It is a companion paper to a previous study.

Wonderful light through the βskindowβ in the reconstructed Early Neolithic house at Butser Ancient Farm. With our new cohort of MSc Arch Sci students.

Agreed and the photo is of a loaf we bought β just struck me as paradoxical. Of course I was recently fishing for wild salmon in BC that started life in a hatchery... Lines are blurred!
Itβs hard to get my archaeological brain around this one.

A younger and rounder Tanu (aka "Bruno") and his sister are the poster pups on the cover of the 2026 GB spinone club calendar! Do we get royalties?
#Italianspinone
New arrival Tanu, weighing in at 17 kg - heβs a big puppy! Our older dog Kenta is just about tolerating him.

8) into the smoker!
6) skip messy step of gutting, left to Bill for forgetting to gas up.
7) cure fish overnight, and dip into maple syrup (thatβs Bill).
5) show Daveβs 8 lb coho just because itβs bigger (with adipose fin) - only allowed to be kept by First Nations until 1 October when it opens to all.
4) catch fish, in this case a 4 lb hatchery coho (distinguished by removed adipose fin)
3) heading into Victoria harbour because βsomebodyβ (Bill) forgot to put gas in the boat.
2) heading to good fishing spot off Victoria harbour, on advice of Dave (First Nations, fishing all his life - i.e. we pay attention)
Documenting the entire process of making delicious smoked wild Pacific salmon.
1) on the boat at ungodly hour before sunrise.
Good luck!
Getting my sister into bonsai. Zen in theory. I must be on holiday.
Smoked coho salmon, 24 hours after caught. Not bad on Vancouver Island!
And introducing Tanuki (Tanu), new member of the household, arriving early October!
And on a more academic note, many congratulations to Teresa FernΓ‘ndez-Crespo and colleagues on the publication of their paper on the identities of victims of Neolithic violence in Science Advances.

Kenta's BBC dΓ©but caught on Bargain Hunt today! Very photogenic. We on the other hand didn't get a look in. Well, except for my hand.
Beautiful setting of All Souls College, Oxford, for what was often a rather dark topic. Many thanks to my co-organisers Teresa FernΓ‘ndez-Crespo (the main driver!), Javier OrdoΓ±o and Andrew Wilson, and to all the speakers and contributors!

Thought long and hard (2 mins at least) about what my first bluesky post should be, and then thought *uck it, I'll just post a picture of Kenta (#spinone), being very attentive in the kitchen.
