There is No Scientific Justification to Revoke the Endangerment Finding The U.S. EPA's decision to repeal the Endangerment Finding will limit the government's ability to regulate emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases under the Clean Air Act.

As I say here, there is no scientific justification to revoke the engagement finding. In fact, over the last 15+ yrs, the evidence of how climate change affects our health has only grown. Higher risk of allergies, dementia, fertility, heart disease, and death: that’s what’s on the line. @nature.org

British Ecological Society event: "Nature-based Solutions: Who benefits, who decides, who pays?" on 29-30 June 2026, York.

We’re inviting researchers, practitioners and policymakers from diverse disciplines and backgrounds to submit a presentation aligned to one of three themes: who benefits, who decides, and who pays – a symposium exploring the evidence, equity and real-world impact of NbS.

Coal power generation falls in China and India for first time since 1970s β€˜Historic’ moment in biggest coal-consuming countries could bring decline in global emissions, analysis says

This is huge: For the first time since the early 1970s, coal power generation has fallen in both China & India.

It undercuts claims that decarbonisation is pointless while they expand coal. Renewables are no longer just adding capacity β€” they’re displacing coal.

It's late & it's been a horrific day, but the Trump admin has pulled the US out of all the international environmental institutions I have been deeply involved in: IPCC, IPBES, IUCN and many others (UN Water, UN Oceans, UNREDD, ITTO, etc). Fossil-fuel extraction massively outweighs critical mineral mining needs (quite literally)

– We dig up tens of billions of tonnes of stuff every year to produce coal, oil & gas
– Raw-material extraction for critical minerals would be a fraction of that, even under net-zero

Climate change DEFINITELY affects hurricane:

STRENGTH: Warmer water is hurricane food

RAINFALL: Warm air holds more water vapor

SURGE: Warmer water expands, warmer ice melts, sea levels rise

PREDICTION: hotter seas mean faster intensification

Back in 2019 I led a research effort to digitize old climate model projections and assess how well they did. Turns out they got future warming pretty spot on!

Visited Muckle Moss in Northumberland yesterday with Natural England colleagues. Great restoration work has restored hydrology, rewetted the bog, reinvigorated the plant community and restarted growth. Note the disappearing fence line as the peat builds up.

The time has come to value tropical fieldworkers as equal partners.

With billions spent on watching forests from space, the skills of foresters and botanists have never been more vital. In our #Nature correspondence we show why - and what needs to change.

The EU has released its latest GHG emission inventory, with data up to 2023.

The good news, GHG emissions continue a downward trend, currently 37% below 1990 levels.

The bad news, a significant downward revision of land-use removals (LULUCF).
