From early knit ski suits to advanced technical fabrics engineered for speed, warmth and aerodynamics, clothing tells its own story of innovation and identity. If you care for winter sports collection, we’d love to hear from you as we develop and map associated collections in our database.
With the Winter Games behind us and the Paralympic Games in motion, we’re also beginning to think ahead to Sport & Fashion Month in June. Winter sport offers a fascinating lens on design and performance. #sportingheritage #sportandfashion #wintersport

The project:
• Moved helmets and artefacts into permanent display
• Created a new exhibition exploring the NW200’s significance
• Introduced interactive, child-friendly elements
• Reached 7,500+ participants during the Joey 25 event
Much of Ballymoney Museum’s motorcycle road racing collection, including the Bert McCook donation linked to the North West 200 (NW200) and the Dunlop family, had remained in storage, limiting public access. With Sporting Heritage grant support, items were brought back into the community space.

The exhibition will tour regionally, embedding these stories into long-term interpretation.
Sporting Heritage supports organisations across the UK to protect, understand and share sporting collections, reducing heritage at risk.
The project:
• Trained seven young women in research and curation
• Recorded interviews with past and present athletes
• Documented women who challenged gender barriers
• Launched an exhibition for International Women’s Day
Women’s sporting achievements in Llanelli had been underrepresented within the historical record. With Sporting Heritage grant support, seven young women (16-24) were trained in filmmaking and curation to research and co-curate an exhibition celebrating local sportswomen.
This student-led event brings together researchers, archivists and practitioners.
Call for Papers deadline: 16 March.
