This reminds me of too many customer service calls I've struggled through. After a million "pardons" and "can you repeat thats" my eventual, "I'm sorry I can't hear you," suddenly results in a conversation as clear as day. 😐

This was 100% true for me. Our own street has people sailing by doing 60 in a 30, swerving *at* the sidewalk to go around speed bumps, and going the wrong way on a one way. Pretty scary to leave to a little kid to navigate.
So interesting, the way some of the trees seemed to just give up all of their leaves at once when the cold hit. Like the ginkgo leaves you've pictured here.
Of course I’m disappointed by the loss. But I may be even more sad about the idea of not getting to watch the delightful dynamic of *this* Blue Jays team. I hope to see as many of them as possible back together in the spring.

I've had a few recent encounters that reminded me how hard, or at least different, humour is for people. For example, some struggle with deadpan humour, and what you're describing sounds like someone trying to affirm that they actually get it!
