Alright, #blackrockshooter uses at minimum 4 total different texture formats based on context: CLUT, DepthBlur, Character textures, & Map textures. The last two may be interchangeable & possibly more to come
Confirmed, 2 texture formats have been found in #blackrockshooter : PF8888 & PFIDX16, both of which are implemented almost verbatim in the binary using the official depthblur sample from Sony PSP SDK 6.6 . This is cool but also means this is no manβs land to an extent
Makes sense. Itβs a little jarring but also fits the general aesthetic of FF12βs characters who were designed by someone whoβs at least partially working on FF14 (not sure of the full extent). π
I could be wrong but it looks like #blackrockshooter uses the PF8888 texture format; it checks for 4 total but thatβs the oddball. If thatβs the case, itβs not well documented; time to peruse leaked official PSP SDK 6 files. The SDK used was version 5, so itβs very possible this may not be useful

Not big but vibe with the first two games & Prinny spinoffs (due to mostly time & lack of hardware to keep up). In some regions, Phantom Brave was called Disgaea 0.

Do the float values 2.3e-10 & 4.5e9 have any significance for 3D vector graphics? Asking because both are heavily used in #blackrockshooter the gameβs bone & mesh data for some reason? Looking for possible leads since this is not my expertise. Thanks

A picture of inside a car with fake switches "I installed switched in my cars dash that don't do anything. When someone gets in my car I look them in the eye, say "buckle up", and start flipping switched in what appears to be a purposeful order. Then I'll drive like a grandma while refusing to answer any questions about the switches.
Of course thatβd show up on your feed. Thatβs too funny and has been shared with family I know like that π€§
Update on my #blackrockshooter game #reverseengineering : I just found a second level of xor encryption in the binary. Looks like the decompression key for some of the base vertex data uses it. Two keys built from different encryption types is annoying. π€§

How frequently does that happen?
Iβm both excited & bummed at the same time with how much of the 3D pipeline seems to follow standard #PSP conventions & implementations. Itβs not 1:1 exact but things like texture & filter modes seems to be directly mappable to the #pspsdk implementations. I was expecting madness, I tell you π€§
@dontgooutthere.com just heard several of your #saw film reviews. I havenβt seen past 7 or 8 yet but that franchise heavily reminds me of the #gardenofsinners film series (in terms of continuity). Do you think that the series creators were huge fans of Anime (since nonlinear stories are common)
Well, not encrypted; bit compressed using a custom algorithm
PTMD confirmed to be exactly what I mostly thought it was. The big difference: itβs not just texture data. Itβs encrypted CLUT, shader & possibly bone data. The worst part: the vertex data encryption is a nightmare; itβs multiple calculations with individual bytes being glued together in memory
I just found the #blackrockshooter game shaders & UV map data inside of the anm files. To save space on disc, the devs encrypted both in data I thought was for something else entirely.

Re-Watching The School (2018)!
It's depressing to learn that children caught in a realm between the living & the dead, would be in school. Of all the dark, depressing and overwhelmingly grim places; they are in school? I think we need to rethink our education system & try to make it not so bleak!
