Game Dev Studio currently making Endless You, a Puzzle Platformer where respawning doesn't reset the level. Explore overgrown factories, abandoned by the aliens that once built them. https://aurorastorialis.itch.io/endless-you-early

This was delightful and charming! Thank you for sharing it. :D
Excited for this. Ordered a copy :D

We've been working on our game's art piece by piece. Here, we've played around with chromatic abberationisms (kudos if you know what those are) to have some light bleed around the edges of the background layers.

Yes... this feels.... correct.
I really enjoy this concept! I feel there are several directions you could take this that would be super interesting. Though I'm biased as a writer, myself.

Wanting to make a survival game for those who don't like survival games really speaks to me. It echos the goals I have for my own work, and it validates that ambition as something a designer can strive for.
The entire thread was a phenomenal read. I'll be thinking about it for a long time.
A broken-down piece of alien technology. It has pink lights and a purple chassis. It's codenamed: Grill

We're going live, prototyping some new puzzles. Come watch!

π― Precision: Correctly timed button presses in the right order.
𧩠Puzzle: Solving problems in a framework using mechanics.
π§ Knowledge: Discovering or remembering information needed to progress.
Reply with percents of these 3 aspects for your fav games, and I'll make pie charts for them!
Excellent read! Pretty sobering in general, but would be especially so to those who got into game dev "for the money".
Your estimates are even pretty generous, given that most teams take more than a year to finish a project. Looking forward to more insight!
A score card for dialed.gg, a game that tests your color memory. An scored 45.69/50. See if you can beat her!!
Got a lot of work on character animation done today, so it's fine to hyper fixate on this all afternoon, as a treat. #dialed
Thank you! Happy to hear you like our little guy, Wik!

Endless You's signature is similar to that of games like Portal and The Talos Principle. Less Precision, mostly puzzle, but some Knowledge.
It will have a few hidden layers of secrets to it! Stuff to uncover if you're really paying attention.
Thank you! It's like a heat signature.
I would consider things like memory and connection to be under the Knowledge heading. Anything that is fuelled by discovery, really. Outer Wilds is an excellent example of a high Knowledge game in this framework!
Here, a puzzle would be something formulaic. Like a Sudoku or a block-pushing puzzle. It can be remixed to make a new challenge.
And Knowledge is information that would let you bypass obstacles. Like a fake wall or a passcode. Think bonus barrel locations in DK Country or most of Animal Well
A graph of 8 pie charts, each representing a video game. What stops a player from completing the game is compared for each title. Precision (input timing, button order) is marked on each chart as yellow. Puzzle (a challenge within a framework) is marked on each chart as green. Knowledge (information that bypasses obstacles) is marked on each chart as blue. The largest chart is for Endless You, which has a fairly similar breakdown to Portal. Other games include: Super Meat Boy, Super Mario Bros 3, Gris, Animal Well, The Witness, and Celeste
π Look at this Graph!
Created a cute little framework for analyzing video games. Ask yourself: what's stopping you from reaching the end of the game?
Precision? Puzzles? Knowledge?
Rate each as a % and you get a pie chart. Compare and contrast your favs!

... Combat.
It's so normal to shoehorn a combat system into a game that doesn't need it. Sometimes combat's inclusion grates against the story.
Endless You would not be better if there was combat, and so it will not include any.

In our upcoming #indiegame:
Solve handcrafted platforming puzzles by dying in more than a dozen unique ways. Uncover a mysterious narrative through inscribed alien heirlooms. Discover layers of secrets hidden inside the aliensβ abandoned factories.
Relooted is a project I've been following since it was announced, and I'm extremely happy to have snagged a copy on release day. If you have any interest in heists or afrofuturism, show the team your support!

Our #indiegame was always meant to have a community centred around #nonbinary and other #queer folks. With current events as they are, we will be louder about that.
Our main character Wik is non binary, and that's relevant to their story and lore. Follow us if that interests you!
Posting again for the night peeps!
