Happy #fossilfriday I want to give an update on some of the many projects I’ve been working on over the past two months, they’ve been very challenging yet satisfying to do and have been pushing my skills!

Become immortal, not infamous, invest in paleontology research directly and get a dinosaur or other cool extinct organism named after you and/or your family. @scinews.bsky.social @sciam.bsky.social @scifri.bsky.social @utahpaleo-ufop.bsky.social @wsj.com Be a part of the real deal!

Artwork of a Stegosaurus gleefully bounding after a monarch butterfly. The Stegosaurus has orange and black patterning that matches the butterfly and the plates on its back look like monarch wings.

"Butterfly Effect" is by far my favorite piece I've ever drawn. I know I keep sharing it, but I just hope it brings joy when people see it.

(Plus I don't have a whole lot of new art to share.)

@lordtrilobite.bsky.social Could you message me at some point here? I have some questions regarding converting data into tangible 3D files. Thanks!

I think that’s an excellent question! I don’t think I could just list a single element or specimen, but I’d say any ceratopsian mounts that aren’t triceratops, specifically skulls. Obviously my favorite is the wall of skulls at UNHM

Tokays are the stuff of folklore and legends in Thailand. They have a repeating call, and hearing different numbers of this at different times of the day can denote good & bad luck alike. Aged tokays are also said to invite golden tree snakes to eat their ailing livers before regenerating new ones.

We really need to teach our kids how to spot intellectual garbage. This is a hug hole in our educational system.

Three panel black and white comic. Panel 1. A smiling eel-like primitive fish shows off it's new iPhone in front of it to two trilobites. Fish dialogue: check out my new phone! It's got 16 gigabytes it can hold! Trilobite dialogue: oh yeah? How many trilobites can it hold? Panel 2: the fish looks on, concerned, as the two trilobites crawl onto the phone and others join. Panel 3: the fish looks upset, its phone is buried in several trilobites. Fish dialogue: please stop

A mother Homotherium grooms one of her newborn cubs. In just 3 weeks, he’ll die, but his little body will survive for more than 30,000 years before emerging from the permafrost. Tonight, though, he is safe and warm with a belly full of milk.

This #FossilFriday let’s drop below the Permian-Triassic boundary, before the mass extinction. This stem-reptile is a pareiasaur: one of the largest reptiles of the Permian.

This specimen is from #Zambia and was one of the best fossils I found as a new grad student on my first trip in 2011.

Credit to Inhumanspecies from Cult3D for the files! I intend to clean it up more and paint this skull like my Citipati one from last week, but they also have files for the entire skeleton as well, I may end up trying to do that πŸ€” let me know what you all think about that!

to you! Not to mention they also have indentations in their ulna (part of the forearm) that are identified as quill knobs, which is where larger feathers would anchor themselves to, being a key piece of evidence that they were feathered!

Happy #fossilfriday my latest 3D print project is the iconic Velociraptor! Most people know how the real version of these guys is significantly different from their Jurassic Park depictions, being much smaller and feathered, but even with the smaller size, they still could inflict some nasty damage

How was it working on the Dreadnoughtus material? I’m curious what the matrix was like and how the quality of the material was as well. Working on some Morrison material can be a pain, especially sauropod cervicals lol

Introduction post! I am a mitigation paleontologist with a variety of experience in different facets in the field, most prominently volunteering for 10 years and counting at the DMNS prep lab! My research goal is to better understand gecko phylogeny and their relation to their modern day relatives!

Just over a year ago, we relocated the lost holotype locality of Teratophoneus curriei in the Kaiparowits Formation of Grand Staircase-Escalante NM. The impressions of the maxilla (pictured here) and dentary left behind in 1981 match perfectly with casts of the bones housed at BYU.
