A Christmas Carol, the original novel, was more radical than its adaptations may have led you to believe. Charles Dickens depicted Ebenezer Scrooge as not just a greedy man but part of a larger system of economic injustice.
I wrote about this on Substack, also diving into the Muppets and Red Sonja.
At SNL I worked with artists who made the funniest, stupidest graphics in no time flat. Some of my biggest jokes would have been impossible without these geniuses building an insane image or finding the perfect real-life photo of a politician. Sucks that their work is being pushed aside for slop.

Let’s IMAGINE you heard that millions of people in France wanted their Prime Minister dead. And the Prime Minister was posting epic memes online, “trolling” millions of his own citizens.
Now imagine you’re a world leader who doesn’t have this issue at all. Do you respect him?
You: Millions of Trump’s own people want him dead. He spends his time going online, “trolling” like a 14 y.o., calling them idiots and making fun of them.
Also, you: Other world leaders respect him and aren’t laughing at him. He’s actually MORE respected than other presidents without this problem.

Most world leaders don’t actually have that problem. Only those leading the most unstable countries.

That’s not how that works. Every leader throughout history, even the most unpopular ones, has had a good number of supporters. Do you believe that no world leader had ever been laughed at by other world leaders before?

You can’t be a good clown and a respected world leader. These are two very different job descriptions.
Respected world leaders don’t “troll” their idiot citizens online.
You can’t have it both ways. Either Trump is respected around the globe or you’re literally proud of him being a clown.
This is why the world is laughing at America. The Vice President of the United States thinks it’s appropriate to go on social media and “troll” American citizens he thinks are “idiots.” What a clown show.
But anyway, this is clearly a video that’s trying to make it look like it would be cool if Trump were a king. That’s why he pulled out the sword like this was Lord of the Rings.
Even if this were true, it still isn’t good. If you believe millions of Americans are too dense to understand sarcasm, maybe the Vice President shouldn’t “sarcastically” announce that his boss is a monarchist.
They’re public servants. Their job isn’t to entertain The Wahbulence on BlueSky.
