Few performers have left a mark on comedy like Catherine O’Hara. She will forever be a part of Canadian cultural history.

This TVO archival clip captures her speaking about what it means to be a Canadian comedian, in her own words. 🀍

Over the past 12 months, Canadian governments, investors, pension funds, corporations, etc. have increased US bond holdings by 27%, or 100B USD.

Why are we increasing our financing of US government debt at a time when the US government is so antagonistic towards Canada?

Yeah, well I'll start my own Board of Peace; with blackjack and hookers!

In fact, forget the Board.

Everybody loved Marineland. Now, uncertainty over closed park and whales draws sadness and frustration | CBC News Nearly two months after Ottawa denied Marineland's request to export its whales, residents in Niagara Falls, Ont., continue to wait for news on the future of the shuttered theme park's property and do...

From this CBC story on Marine Land:

"The plan also includes an on-site data centre, which would generate revenue for animal care."

That proposal by KNP also has bad AI concept art. For some reason I think their proposal might be half-baked.

I will believe in the end of identity politics when steel and lumber (28,000 jobs and 105,000 jobs respectively) stop getting bailouts, while higher education (310,000 jobs) collapses in front of our eyes because it's full of ivory tower elites

I'm confused by why the panels would be cantilevered vs having supports at multiple points around the frame. Weight and depth makes snow slide off my panels, but I realize this will depend on angles & temperatures. Would be interesting to hear about snow factors from coragroup.com/properties/e...

A plaque for tourists in French and English about shipwrecks in Saint Pierre. Text from the plaque:

β€œSource of pillaging :
On May 18th 1971, because of a thick fog and a failing radar, the Transpacific, a 3865 tons cargo ship coming from QuΓ©bec and property of the company PosΓ©idon Line, ran aground on the Marie-Rose reef, next to Trehouart cove.
After several unsuccessful attempts to get the cargo off the reef, the captain and his crew abandonned the ship. The looting of the cargo started, an opportunity to a hundred savvy and fearless people.
They loaded in their dories all kinds of goods: hundreds of lawn mowers, juke boxes, engines, food, beverage... and a part of the ship equipment : tableware, furniture, compass, wheel and bell.
Fearing a pollution, the ship was partly burnt and nature took care of what remained, leaving only the bow as a reminder.”

There were still shipwrecks after β€˜68. I visited Saint Pierre in 2015 and took a picture of this one from 1971.

The "drill, baby, drill" slogan belies the relatively small role of *all* mining, quarrying, O&G extraction activities in the Canadian economy.
It's hugely capital intensive (only 1.2% of all jobs) but rip, strip and ship activities contribute just 5.1% to GDP... not even in the top 10 sectors.

I got my 2018 Leaf just before Ford was elected and ended Ontario's EV rebate, paid $35k. I was hoping by now, nearly 8 years later, there would be better options in the same price range. There would be if I was outside North America.

My visiting friend's flight was cancelled and #AirCanada won't even put him on hold, they just say no one is available to take his call. Even though the general advice is not to take a refund, the website still tells him to call in for a refund, which again leads nowhere.
