Today, I'm proud to announce that we've erased over $1.1 billion in medical debt for more than half a million Illinoisans.
No one should be forced to choose between life-saving care and feeding their families.
Stay tuned for more news on affordability in Illinois tomorrow.

This whole thread. What you're seeing from Minnesota is just the tip of the iceberg *of what DHS is doing in Minnesota*!

The actual story is that a family of American citizens trying to evacuate from a neighborhood that ICE had made unsafe, and then ICE tossed munitions into the car, causing three kids to be hospitalized and a six month old to stop breathing. DHS called the family “radical agitators”

This video is the perfect encapsulation of the illegal, thuggish, unprovoked, violent conduct of ICE. Rep. @benniethompson.bsky.social, I trust that you and the House Homeland Security Committee will have interest in this.

A dark blue graphic with the DREDF logo in the top left displays a quote in white and yellow text inside a rounded border. The quote emphasizes that health insurance and health care are essential, and highlights in yellow that tax credits are very important for low-income families. Yellow quotation marks frame the text.
Health care access is on the line. Congress must act NOW to extend the enhanced ACA premium tax credits before they expire or millions could lose affordable coverage. Take action!

An excerpt from The Washington Post's interview with photographer Christopher Anderson:
Question: "Were there moments that you missed? Anything that happened that’s on the cutting room floor?"
Anderson: "I don’t think there’s anything I missed that I wish I’d gotten. I’ll give you a little anecdote: Stephen Miller was perhaps the most concerned about the portrait session. He asked me, 'Should I smile or not smile?' and I said, 'How would you want to be portrayed?' We agreed that we would do a bit of both. And then when we were finished, he comes up to me to shake my hand and say goodbye. And he says to me, 'You know, you have a lot of power in the discretion you use to be kind to people.' And I looked at him and I said, 'You know, you do, too.'"

This is unreal: Houston just made it illegal "for any person to sit or lie down on a sidewalk or on a blanket, stool, or any other object placed upon a sidewalk."
Being unhoused in public is now a criminal offense.

Every American should read this ACLU lawsuit about what is happening in Los Angeles and California. It is the stuff of dystopian nightmares. This is not immigration enforcement. It is positively stuffed with videos and articles documenting racial profiling on a scale unseen since Jim Crow.

Trump’s budget bill is a disaster for public health.
It’s the biggest cut to health care in history.
12 million people will lose health insurance.
Hundreds of hospitals will close.
1 in 4 nursing homes will close.
Millions more families won’t have enough food.

Not that anyone cares, but now that JD Vance has cast the tiebreaking vote for $1 trillion in Medicaid cuts, I'm reupping these Vance quotes from 2017, in which he flatly declared that Medicaid cuts like these betray Trumpism's promises to the working class:

👀The House bill cut Medicaid by $800-863 billion and now the Senate bill as we expected is worse.
CBO preliminary score for Senate bill is up to $930 billion in Medicaid cuts.

Yesterday, more than 50 people were arrested by Capitol police for protesting the proposed cuts to Medicaid, SNAP, and other essential lifelines. These cuts will cause immense harm to disabled and multiply marginalized people. Among those arrested was our Governmental Affairs Liaison, Carol.

University of Michigan using undercover investigators to surveil student Gaza protesters
Revealed: security trailing students on and off campus as video shows investigator faking disability when confronted
UMich spent over $800,000 to harass and stalk its own students who have bravely spoken up for human rights.
All of this is egregious. Including the hired spy pretending to be Deaf (and nonsense "signing") before using disability as an insult two seconds later.

HHS cancels nearly $600 million Moderna contract on vaccines for flu pandemics
HHS has notified Moderna that it is canceling a nearly $600 million contract for vaccines for flu strains that could trigger future pandemics.
If someone were coming up with a dastardly plan to weaken our pandemic preparedness, they could hardly do better than RFK is doing.
