Graduate and undergraduate members of the Cryosphere Research Lab, supervised by Prof. Brown, have been monitoring snow and ice conditions on lakes in Central Ontario. They are taking measurements throughout the winter, highlighting the variability in climate and its effects on snow and ice.
GGE ROP students Samira Kamal Eddin and Razia Saleh attended the 2026 Finger Lakes Research Conference in Geneva, NY, USA. They presented the project entitled "Tracing the Evolution of the Polycentric Governance System of the Finger Lakes Watershed: A Canandaigua Case Study". 👏
Danielle Martin (GGE PhD student) won the 3-Minute Thesis Award at the 37th Annual Cold Regions Research Centre Student Conference. Her presentation was titled "Applying a bacterial lipid paleothermometer proxy to strengthen understandings of past climate variability in northwestern North America."
🌲📖 Yesterday, students in the GGR304 Dendrochronology class with Professor Trevor Porter explored the hidden stories inside trees. They learned about tree-ring anatomy and examined a variety of softwood and hardwood species from the Haliburton area north of Toronto.
We hope everyone is enjoying the sunny weather after the snowfall. It is a wonderful time to take a walk and appreciate the beauty of our UTM campus.
