Really important work on emissions from burning of buildings. Need to know this to understand what kind of air pollution everyone (humans, animals, plants/crops) are being exposed to during fires that burn in the wildland-urban interface & urban fires.

If we had Science Olympics, I’d list colleagues & researchers from Canada, Finland, UK, Norway, France, Sweden, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Mexico, Peru, Australia, Aotearoa New Zealand, Kenya, Ghana, Algeria, Iran, India, Nepal, Japan, Malaysia, China, & so many others as Gold Medal 🥇winners.
Too many dudes watched ‘The Matrix’ and ‘Fight Club’ and thought “Yeah, let’s do that” and not what the creators intended, which was “Oh Lord, who art in Heaven, how do we prevent such a terrible alternate reality from happening?”
Things like this always remind me of when I learned that:
1. Betty White was born before mass-marketed sliced bread.
2. A particularly nationalist former Yooper neighbor would drone on about his ancestors in the UP of Michigan, to hear they had immigrated there after my grandparents were born.

The 3 digits interstates and freeways were originally designed to tell you that it was a loop or connector around an established interstate/freeway (i.e., I-495 beltway or I-505, which go around I-95 and I-5/“the 5”, respectively). But they don’t stick to the cardinal directions necessarily.
There is no I-50 or I-60.
There are two-lane U.S. Routes 50 & 60, that existed before interstates were built. And an I-64. The real numbering system is even numbers go east to west, odd numbers go north to south. State, local, and federal roads.

It feels like all weather in the Northern Hemisphere is currently stuck.
The smoke in the northern Sacramento Valley is mainly orchard tear outs (a form of human-caused ag burning). How do I know? Been doing fieldwork last week and the rest of this month mapping this type of fire to compare to satellite and modeling products like this one.
