Well, at least this weekend's weather in #Porirua was better than last. I figured it was time to do a bit of a check in but for those who prefer the more cerebral stuff, I will be also taking a deep dive into some of the council mahi from last week, so watch this space.
We all know the weather in #porirua won't stay this good, so I am posting us to remember when it gets makariri.
Thanks to Henk, who sent me this when he flew over yesterday. He said " Itβs a pretty special place we get to call home".
They are 100% correct.
Hope the fire guy doesnβt get in trouble but π€£π€£π€£π€£ππ€£ππππ€£π€£π€£π€£π€£ (watch the fire guy at the end)
As a Vikings fan on the far side of the world, I am glad to see this #skol

Youβve said it yourself: Youβre rich, so youβre sorted. Most people arenβt. They canβt eat ideology, and they canβt budget around slogans.

This government ain't hiding it. They're saying the quiet bit LOUD.
If you don't like high fees, then this ain't helping.
A good government should care about everyone, especially the ones with the least. This one puts property owners first.

Saul Ainsky: the price of a successful attack, is a constructive alternative.
I watched some particularly toxic tactics play out on the campaign trail (not in my race) and I was reminded of this...
It was the mahi of @geoffhayward.bsky.social and I that got every council in the region to back a water charter to govern Wellington Water's replacement, but the job's not done yet:
FYI juror fees have not been increased since 2004 (yes 21 years ago). The maximum payable is $127 for more than 3 hours and beyond 9 pm.
The usual daily rate is $62 for more than 3 hours but not beyond 6 pm.
Jury duty is obviously nowhere near as important as being on a board. π€¬

That whakaaro always seemed to resonate with me. It's not like I'm whakama when it comes to sharing he kapu, but it sure helps to get the tounges wagging.
I once read an article about a decade ago about the (perhaps premature) aftermath of the so called "Arab Spring". There was an anecdote from a local political leader that the biggest lesson he had was to drop milk from his coffee as they spent spent more time talking with people...

Today at #Norths old timers day, we're still missing our uso Jerry Collins 10 years on.
He wasn't just a stalwart of club, province and country.
He is a brother of #Porirua & you continue to inspire.
Thank you Frank and the whΔnau for sharing him again with us today.

This.
In framing the political right would understand:
When government legislates so as to remove money from workers in order to pay for its policy agenda they would typically call it a tax hike.
In everything but name they're levying a targeted tax rise on those who work in jobs dominated by women.
It's crazy that the Government has been allowed to claim they're "injecting" an "extra" half billion dollars into the film industry.
They haven't introduced any new funding or changed existing options. They've just written a new number in the spot for what they expect the existing rebate to cost.

Rose's story is just one of many in Porirua that deserve better recognition through changes to how we name streets.

βHi Bob, this one is printed on recycled paper.β
Now, the easy thing to do would be to ignore him, or apologise, but instead the MP sent Bob another card the following year with a additional message written just for himβ¦
Bob was still writing columns and devoted the following edition to a rant about what he thought was the profligate nature of MPs spending of taxpayer dollars on sending out material.
One year the MP wrote Christmas cards to thousands of people, including Bob: a huge logistical challenge to be sure.
The second anecdote illustrates if there is a positive lesson from his example, it was his respect for those who would not cower from a battle.
I used to work for a Labour MP based in the electorate where Bob lived.
