I've had my staff be like, "oh it was a hard day when you were gone."
And I'm like "aww that sucks, how?"
And they're like, "well, you know what it's like when you're not here" π

there is a *GIGANTIC* distinction between "my buddy's politics we don't talk about on poker night" and how much generosity and grace it warrants and "the politics of a fucking candidate for the United States Senate"

Stuck in meetings all afternoon but I promise I'll meet my spirit animal once the weekend starts
I was an English major! Those classes, when taken seriously, were quite difficult, and so is my intermediate micro course.
Any subject of inquiry is interesting to me, I find people fascinating, and doing math about the world we live in is empowering and idk I just think it's neat
As a guy who wrote this on the board last week, this is always funny to me, and also it's very cool and fun to be able to predict the number of firms in a market just by looking at cost curves and to be able to estimate the price elasticity of demand
Like the world is just v cool to look at
There's a million adults in Maine. There's gotta be at least a handful that don't suck shit. So why are the candidates made up exclusively of people who suck shit
My coffee is next to a very liquidy Meyers clean day candle, currently lit and thankfully warm to the touch so I did not inadvertently drink it upon accidentally lifting it
Just almost lived my own "hey mister, you don't want to drink a candle" moment

i'm not nearly enough of a consequentialist to believe "if x person wins y office, it proves i was right and good."
that's not how i believe this works, or how i believe politics works.
if you build a house on rot, it will out
i walked around here for like a half hour and barely saw half of it, hell yeah
shoutout to the book fair trade show conference experience: dozens upon dozens of niche publishing houses, academic journals, weirdo zines, and unusual books catering to every possible interest or kink or personality type or micro-genreβjust a wonderful reassurance that the written word whips ass
whenever people say "the world is ending" i think about places like this, and how many awesome people are putting the coolest shit out into the world, and how it feels like we're really just getting started

Brent crude oil price chart YTD +41.40%

in a world where "watch this *LIBERAL* get totally *DESTROYED* by *FACTS*" is a thing people with political aspirations say, i guess the meaning has changed?
it was briefly an issue at my church when we renovated a new building. we answered "what if *everyone* used the bathroom" and life has never been better
the level seems fine
more worried about the first derivative

Also they get very mad if you make them think about anything
the rare thread where i felt compelled to like every response
because names threads rule, and also this take is absolutely correct, fuckin Steve Dave Markwayne
also as a piece of trivia, our church moved into a new building in 2021, prioritized universal access all-gender restrooms, and it has been an unmitigated and glorious success. it makes so many things so much easier for everybody, especially new people, especially people with children.
it's a principled approach to policy, what's the problem
See, the thing is, this is how bathroom laws are *supposed* to work
i was just thinking an hour ago about how i liked him so much more when he was "Tungsten Arm O'Doyle" on the Angels

Sure but I also wouldn't nominate them for office while they were still chatting with their old Nazi buddies
Like you gotta put in the work to earn the trust *first*. Do some dishes, mow the commune lawn, and we can talk about your political career later

The Padres scored 27 runs today
That is the second-most runs by a team in a Spring Training game in at least the last 20 years, behind only:

He's also implying that if you wrote the 14 words in comic sans that would somehow materially change the situation
It is a very stupid position to take
