This year's Winnipeg Whisky Festival will highlight Canadian craft distillers; there's also a whole bunch of other spirits-related events happening this week leading up to the Fri-Sat tastings. A preview, for @winnipegfreepress.com: www.winnipegfreepress.com/arts-and-lif...
The cover of Sharing the Light by Monique Gray Smith appears on the left. An image of the author herself appears on the right, accompanied by the text POSTPONED in a red banner.
Please note: tonight's previously scheduled event with Monique Gray Smith has been postponed due to unforeseen circumstances. We are looking to reschedule and will announce a new date shortly. Apologies for any disappointment!

For entirely different reasons
Also seems sorta fitting to send it out to @wazoowazny.bsky.social on his birthday
Sending this one out to Connor Hellebuyck: youtu.be/vJP_LF0Bw8Q?...
I can't think of a gift you'd appreciate more, pal... YOU ARE WELCOME
I feel simultaneously enraged and dumber for having read that
Something's off with the Canadian men's curling team today against the Swiss, but I can't put my finger on it
Swedes did report it, maybe weren't the best reaction-wise, but also acknowledged it didn't make a difference score-wise post-game. But Canada denied it (despite video evidence), came across like bad sports, etc., even while Swedes were being interviewed post-game. Not shocking given the team.
I mean... it's tricky. I think officials can't do much, and it's on the offending team to self-report (or concede they did it) - the "gentleman's game." IMO he did it (and I think they've been doing it for a while now), it didn't make any difference, but the reaction is a bad look.
I mean, having watched a few replaysβ¦ the Swedes ainβt wrong (and the Cdn response is just bad form generally)
The curling subreddit timeline:
Pre-Olympics: very quiet
First few days of Olympics: sweet, earnest questions from new fans about how the game is played, etc.

Well I mean they were both middle-aged bald dudes like me so... maybe?
I know, right? BUT IT HAPPENED... Last month I was at the gym on the treadmill, not running particularly fast (for me) to see if my foot pain was still bad, and when I was done a guy on the machine next to me said "That was SERIOUSLY impressive!" Again, NO ONE HEARD HIM BUT ME
I went to the gym with the boy today, and a guy shouted out one of the bands I was in in the late '90s. And do you think the boy was in earshot? OF COURSE NOT
This probably would have been my first choice as well
Photo, BTW, is by the brilliant Mikaela MacKenzie, and the story by the always-stellar @maggiemacintosh.bsky.social
This is a subtly great photo if you know the slogan is "leading the pack," and the kid's backpack is right there. Also my kid goes to this school, and I agree with him that the backpack ban is so dumb
