90s Sam Raimi wouldβve made a great Jonah Hex movie
I remember learning about the Hays Code in film school and how it made it so that any amoral protagonist had to meet karmic justice by the end of the film and going βwow, thatβs really sillyβ and then once a week I log online and see people argue that we need stuff like that now or itβs problematic
Youβre not going to solve the problem of evil by censoring media so evil never looks glamorous and is always humiliatingly defeated. The Hays Code would have resulted in world peace if that were the case.
Iβm glad itβs the only main series game Iβve never played
I also watched it right after the shield which does somewhat turn its morally reprehensible violent man into a heroic cool guy in the end even though he gets a tragic ending. Like it does happen (the issue is bad writing not morals though) but breaking bad is absolutely not a case of that lol
It was also backlash to seeing trans people having any legitimized success esp in a field where medical pseudoscience could be so easily used against them.
On my last rewatch I esp realized that it absolutely doesnβt take Waltβs side in the end. It is his descent into hell and it frames it as a deserved punishment. Itβs not the shows fault that ppl need their hands held
The βjust asking questionsβ aspect of banning trans people but esp trans girls from sports always has been a gross cover for transphobia. The goal was always to isolate trans girls from their peers by excluding them in a very public, very violating way.
The fascists are stupid, but theyβre not Stupid. They know they donβt win if they go for genocide right off the bat. If you were receptive to βjust asking questions about sportsβ then congrats, you gave them a foot in the door.
Theyβre never βjust asking questionsβ
Remember how Joe Rogan was "just asking questions" about trans women and sports and didn't have a problem with trans people otherwise?
He's now a full on anti-trans genocidal fascist.
There is a reason you hold the line at sports.
Like even just considering the ads they are probably paying a ridiculous amount compared to even other successful podcasts. And yeah heβs definitely getting some political funding with the shit he constantly peddles and how unnaturally brought up it is.
I think more people should be asking just how Joe Rogan is so wealthy, considering Spotify pays scraps even to top selling artists and he rarely does comedy shows anymore.
Deparate for help. Trying to inch by one more month. Rent, car note, have gotten behind. We are also in need that pesky stuff known as food, insulin, testosterone, blood pressure meds, and if my neuropathy continues to behave like a douche, gabapentin

I mean dude comes from reality tv. He knows what a persona can do for him.
I also truly think Rogan plays up the idiot persona partially to get those ppl on but also to appeal to ppl who think itβs actual βdebateβ when itβs pure propaganda. Esp thinking of how often he pretends to be just a moderate stoner βasking questionsβ
The defense people make of going on Rogan is that heβs an idiot who can be convinced of anything so you might as well convince him of good things.
This clip of Rogan convincing a well-meaning guy to become transphobic should be Exhibit A against that argument.
Substitute teachers have a better batting average
This reminds me that those books are among the most often targeted in library book bans bc of βsexual contentβ which really just serves to keep teens away from survival information
Anyways I also think itβs important to have various representations of abuse bc it is a major way a lot of ppl can recognize what happened to them as abuse. I think itβs esp why itβs important for YA books like Speak to exist.
I also do hate how often ppl would take a survivor saying they were personally uncomfortable was the same as genuine censorship. Good criticism and exploration of trauma was hurt all around bc of the assumption that survivors should be monolithic on representations of abuse
This was something I regret with Twitter discourse. I would just say my thoughts on how rape on film can be catharsis as well as meaningful exposure therapy and shouldnβt be censored and it was often taken as dunking on survivors who had completely fair reasons for being against.
Itβs why I am down with content warnings. Itβs about giving survivors choice in their engagement instead of bombarding them. Hell I used to look for representations so that I could find the catharsis BJ later refers to.
Hate seeing sexual violence depicted on screen and want nothing to do with it because it's super triggering? Correct.
Feel validating catharsis seeing it depicted on screen because it gives you an outlet to work through your feelings? Also Correct.
Somewhere in between? ALSO CORRECT!
