I hate it that people keep saying "things are astronomically worse than they used to be." The internet and news cycle wasnt what it is now. Theres always been awful things happening, you just werent hearing about it. And yes, some things have gotten worse but some things have gotten better too.
Some game devs are just gamers larping as game devs and its really easy to tell because a large majority of the design decisions they make are accomodating speedrunners first and foremost.

I think the biggest damage to the art community was the obsolescence of gallery sites (y!, deviantart, etc) and the rise of scroll-by social media, like twitter and even tumblr. Art is not ''content'', you shouldnt need to post art every day (or every month!) to be relevant. This mindset sucks.
So this is a little different than everyone else's, I picked games that I felt were the most influential on my own music.

I used to use the main lead instrument in this game all the time for my SMS/GG stuff. Sonic can really never escape the SN76489 allegations, the NGPC uses a later iteration of whats in the SMS/GG.

To me it just kinda feels like these guys were just showing off compositionally and it was more about what they accomplished on a theory level than the music itself. While theres nothing inherently wrong with that, thats not what I look for in music.
A lot of professional composers I talk to are really into classical music but its one of the only forms of music I really cant get into. I respect baroque for being the starting point of western music theory and writing intricate counterpoint is very impressive but Im not really moved by a lot of it

I dont understand current corporate thinking. Our generation doesnt have disposable income like all the previous generations did, yet everything is more expensive. Even companies targeting children like pokemon and lego think theyre gucci and just release all this expensive crap aimed at collectors.
I understand how shitty it is not being able to obtain the kind of success you want out of an artform (that was really getting to me in 2017) but taking out your frusturation with the uncaring indifference of the universe on other people seems kinda shitty idk.
As much as I love drawing from 80s pop and all the throwback 80s pop/synthpop music thats been made in recent years I feel like overall the 80s was one of the worst decades for mainstream music and we just remember the stuff that was really good. For every Tears for Fears there were like 5 Journey's
I think about that bluesky post where they were like "theres no memorable video game themes in popular games anymore." I heard a bunch back to back (assassins creed, god of war) and it was all generic filmscore shit that completely blended together for me.
