Had a great time running another #DungBeetle & sustainable parasite management workshop today - superbly hosted by the fantastic FarmEd. Everyone learnt a lot, found dung beetles & took an important message back to their farms…

Yet again livestock are increasing the biodiversity by supporting food chains both above & below ground…

Sad to leave Switzerland with all their beautiful cows & fantastic #DungBeetles. Am hitting the ground (so to speak rather than litterally) running from the minute I land.
Next stop is Wales…

Today I will mostly be floating beetles out of pig poo…

With survey season in full swing it’s time to get practical, put the gloves on & head out into the fields. Already collecting some interesting data πŸ‘

Something brilliant is happening in Stroud - the incredibly talented @ATMstreetart is immortalising a curlew just in time for #worldcurlewday 21st April!
Highlighting endangered species is something ATM is really good at - who else wants to see him paint a giant #DungBeetle next? πŸ™‹πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

Spectacular views from the office window this week whilst surveying grasslands with my pilot Tim.
I’m focusing on permanent unimproved calcareous grassland as it is an incredibly rare & rapidly declining habitat, particularly special due to its high biodiversity & carbon sequestrating abilities.

Am greatly saddened that DEFRA is stopping SFI & they have now closed the scheme to new applications.
SFI supported nature, our environment & food production. It was one of the best agricultural policies going promising a fairer future for farmers & a greener future for our country.

It’s been another incredible dung beetle year!
The highlight was being awarded the British Entomological & Natural History Society’s gold medal.
Working together with farmers & landowners there many positive changes at grassroots & beyond. #DungBeetles are now very much part of the conversation πŸ‘

Grey seal pups are born in Scotland & along the east coast during the autumn/winter.
They can’t swim for several weeks from birth until they moult their white coat which is not waterproof.
Common seal pups are born in June/July & able to swim from birth as moult their coat whilst still in the uterus
