100,000 trans people & allies fill central London for Trans Pride.

Mainstream media: nothing

Thousands of trans people & allies fill Wembley Arena for pro-trans gig with massive names like Sophie Ellis-Bextor & Sugarbabes.

Mainstream media: nothing.

This is what extreme media bias looks like.

Btw in a less headlined update on Trump Admin tech-fascism and the legacy of Elon Musk’s cringe meme org, it has been confirmed via released discovery and (I think) deposition transcripts how chatgpt was used to materially harm society

and its not only not a top story, its a barely covered story

cis friends i want you to really understand this horror

imagine if in half of US states if you were in an accident/got sick and had to go to the hospital

the medical professionals there would FORCE THE WRONG HORMONE INTO YOUR BODY, making it change in ways antithetical to who you are

IMAGINE IT

Snugs or getting out of bed an hour early to drive for an omelette? Even my hungry ass had some bread and water before bed.

Anyways, time zones are dumb and I hate that shift to DST cost me hash browns *again*.

This breakfast comes after my (preferred) 23 mile bike ride home. I shower, change, start the laundry, wake my wonderful wife up and be passenger princess for the 2mi or so trip to the diner.

But the shift to DST ruins that shit. (2/3)

Of all the legit commentary about going from standard time (lame) to DST (good), I feel my gripe is more important.

When I come off a block of 12 hour night shifts my wife and I have a diner breakfast when I get home. Like, we go out: shitty coffee, omelettes, hasbrowns, and a fat tip.

I spent 45 minutes trying and failing to convince a full bird Colonel with multiple Afghanistan and Iraq deployments that Afghanistan is not an Arabic speaking country. I was helped in this discussion (to no avail) by two Afghan interpreters who were more polite than I was.

As the article notes, FL did this and the gas stations/companies pocketed the difference. There was like one day where there was a notable difference.

I used to work around some self oxidizing fuels, things that could get hot enough to cause water to become an oxidizer, and other silly stuff all in confined spaces.

Then I learned about liquid rocket fuel and said "they're crazy!"

We didn't ruin the economy.
We didn't get you laid off.
We didn't replace you with AI.
We didn't raise gas prices.
We didn't foreclose your home.
We didn't cause your divorce.
We didn't get your kid snatched by ICE.
We aren't in the Epstein files.

Leave us the fuck alone.

Map snapshot depicting the predicted relative anomalousness of 500mb GPH from the ECMWF ensemble over the Western U.S. in about a week from now. A large anomalous ridge, featuring a huge region of bright orange and red colors (depicting extremely high positive GPH anomalies) is centered right in the middle of the map.

Current indications are that late spring or even mid-summer-like (in some places) heat will arrive and persist for a fairly extended duration across a wide swath of the American West, centered on the Four Corners to Southern CA region. This will induce rapid melt of remaining snowpack.

"It [ClF3] is hypergolic with every known fuel, and so rapidly hypergolic that no ignition delay has ever been measured. It is also hypergolic with such things as cloth, wood, and test engineers, not to mention asbestos, sand, and water..."

It's the perfect blend of history and fun!

The cover of Ignition! by John D. Clark

The cover of Ignition! by John D. Clark

This is a good mix of sci-fi (or at least, at the time since it was bleeding edge) and the history of liquid rocket propellants (because it is).

The author's got a very good voice and sense of humor about the whole business.

β€œSubordinating the political point of view to the military would be absurd, for it is policy that has created war. Policy is the guiding intelligence and war only the instrument, not vice versa. No other possibility exists, then, than to subordinate the military point of view to the political” -Carl

The consequences of this war for Americans will be bleak and take decades to unfold, but it will impoverish and provincialize them in ways that would have been unimaginable ten years ago

Yesterday I filmed several baby birds walking across a street directly at my camera and asked Bluesky to suggest music

Several dozen folks did

Some even dubbed music over the original clip.

I haven't been able to get this out of my head.

So I give you

A Bluesky exclusive:

This is honestly the treatment Trump voters should get in the U.S. too. Don't let them try to hide from the effects of their choice. It's always the people who believe in the worst things that get mad when someone "makes things political."

Disclaimer: I served with the author and have nothing but good things to say about him from that time.

Joel Ira Holwitt's Execute Against Japan is a very good book about what should be a dry topic. It covers a bit of why US subs did so well in the Pacific, amongst other things.

One way to describe the Taiping Rebellion is a dude had a breakdown for not getting to be a softhanded scribe in the 1860s and WW1 death tolls ensued for a bit over a decade.
