there's so much bad in the world but there's also people who lift up and carry an elderly bat around every day so he can pretend he's flying again, and that's the part of the world I think is worth fighting for
I get yelled at for saying this but for many hundreds of years people went to university not to get diplomas or be employable but because immersion in the humanities was considered foundational to a good life, and school must return to its original purpose: the joy of learning.

When he was mayor he demoted the first Black police Chief in South Bend for recording high level police officials...discussing illegal acts and making racist remarks. He refused to reinstate the Chief and to release the recordings. He has since said he made a mistake, but it took YEARS.
