A European stonechat perched on a bramble stem, surrounded by fresh green leaves with reddish edges. The small bird has a warm orange chest, mottled brown back, and a pale wing patch. Its beak is stuffed with a messy bundle of dry grass, moss, and fine rootsβnest material so large it partly hides its faceβsuggesting it is busy building or lining a nest. The background is softly blurred green, making the bird and the tangle of nesting material stand out clearly.
Good morning. For the alt of todayβs #BirdOfTheDay #NestBuilders Iβm going with this Stonechat who was building a three room extension to the nest, all with sea views. #birds #photography #EastCoastKin

At midnight, Kintla Lake lies in a state of near-perfect stillness, transformed by starlight and the faint, indirect glow of the moon resting below the horizon. The surrounding mountains appear as a continuous, dark silhouetteβpeaks and ridgelines reduced to their most essential forms, stripped of texture and detail by the absence of direct light. Their shapes are readable not by illumination, but by contrast: a deeper black against the dim, blue-toned sky. Above the horizon, the sky grades gently from a pale, luminous blue near the mountain crests into a deeper, cooler indigo higher overhead. Scattered stars punctuate this gradient with small, steady points of white, some faint and others more pronounced, their light softened by the thin veil of atmosphere. There is no sense of sparkle or glareβonly a quiet, persistent presence, as if the sky is breathing rather than shining. The lake mirrors this scene with extraordinary clarity. The mountains are reflected almost perfectly, inverted and undisturbed, creating a symmetrical composition where sky and water meet seamlessly at the shoreline. The stars repeat themselves in the lakeβs surface as subtle pinpricks of light, slightly dimmer than those above, as though filtered through depth and distance. The reflection is so calm that the boundary between water and air becomes momentarily ambiguous, giving the impression of a doubled nightβone above, one below. In the foreground, the shoreline fades into darkness. Rocks along the waterβs edge are barely discernible, their shapes suggested rather than revealed. They anchor the scene quietly, providing a subtle sense of scale without intruding on the vastness of the lake and sky. The light in the image is neither warm nor cold, but restrained and neutralβpurely celestial. With the moon below the horizon, its presence is felt only indirectly, lending the sky a soft, even glow rather than casting shadows or highlights.
