In the #ELEVATE Annual Net Zero Report 2025 we explore how shifting geopolitics could shape international cooperation, looking into the effects of trade barriers (on trade of fossil fuels), and international technological cooperation.
π While views on what constitutes fair and feasible reduction targets differ, for most analysed countries currently proposed 2035 targets require strengthening to better reflect equity principles.
βοΈ Four of them - Brazil, EU, Japan and South Africa - have an NDC that is on a linear path towards their net-zero targets. If these countries manage to achieve their NDC target and maintain the same emission reduction rate afterwards, they could achieve their long-term target.
Our latest #ELEVATE Annual Net-Zero Report analysed seven large emitters: the European Union, the United States, China, India, Brazil, Japan, and South Africa.

π Most countries have included both CO2 and other greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) in their net-zero target (86%).
βHowever, a total of 59 countries currently appear as having βno targetβ, including the United States. This is 10 countries less, compared to last year's report.
π―139 countries have a net-zero emission target that is either proposed, pledged, in policy, in law, or achieved. π£οΈ118 countries have published a concrete plan on how to reach their target.
π
2050 is the most common target year for achieving net-zero emissions (80%).
