The Supreme Court isn’t solely at fault for Donald Trump’s behavior, but its rulings—particularly the July 2024 decision, have significantly expanded executive power and reduced legal accountability, enabling bolder actions by Trump and future presidents.
The Court’s conservative majority has since sided with Trump’s administration in over 20 emergency “shadow docket” cases during his second term , allowing policies like withholding foreign aid, mass deportations, and agency overhauls to proceed despite lower court blocks.
The Court’s decision eroded judicial checks on executive overreach, but Trump’s “out of control” actions also stem from his own disregard for norms, Republican congressional control, and a polarized political environment where accountability mechanisms like impeachment, failed.
Ultimately, the ( failed) Supreme Court’s decisions amplify risks to democracy by prioritizing separation-of-powers concerns over preventing abuse, but they don’t create Trump’s impulses—they shield them.
I believe you can blame the Supreme Court for the mess the USA is in. A failed Supreme Court equals a failed America.
My opinion.
This is what Iger should have done in the first place—just refused to back down from Sinclair’s demands in the first place, and then hang the consequences around their neck and let them feel the blowback.
Fuck Sinclair. Their public reckoning is long overdue anyway.
This is why ABC's reinstatement of Kimmel isn't enough for me (although it's a good start). They should also threaten to drop any affiliate that preempts the show. Sinclair's contract with ABC is up for renewal next year.
This isn't just old fashioned either, it's simply the physical reality of the world.
You can send a million emails, and they all go into a big inbox and can be ignored.
But imagine a thousand physical letters showing up. That's bags and bags of mail.
Suddenly, you've created a memorable event.
One point I would add:
When you write a letter to complain, don't do it electronically. Corporations do not care about those, at all.
Write an actual letter, and send it in the mail, with a stamp.
One physical letter is like a MILLION electronic comments. Getting physical mail FREAKS THEM OUT.
If the sponsors pull, the stations die, which leads to Sinclair going bankrupt.
