Set up my turntable again recently, spin something from my collection while I eat lunch, like visiting old friends!
Happy International Women's Day!

I adapted a recipe by David Coles using Langridge historic pigments. My bio banner shows it in a shell and on papyrus. Wouldnβt mind having a go at some Terre Verte one day too.
I've only ever made Egyptian blue. This looks really lush, such depth of colour!
A series of screenshots with the URL of art purchased and nice comments from buyers. I won't be typing them all out as I am vision impaired myself but they are all simple comments about what they liked about the artworks which were sent to me via my Redbubble store Bubblemail.
Being an artist means a lot of alone time & not really knowing what people think about what you do, so it's always a delight to get a message from a customer. If you get an opportunity to give an artist a pat on the back, please do it, times are tough for us & you will really make someone's day. β€οΈ

I spent a lot of time researching and drawing my Celtic Tree Moon series, so it was a nice surprise to sell some this week. π»

In 2025 my most popular design was one based on the sumptuous motifs and colours of #SuttonHoo and it's still one of my favourites too.

The amulet is a pale brown colour. He's in a seated position with his hands on his knees, and has a large headdress of a full moon sitting inside a crescent moon. He has some cursive hieroglyphs inscribed down the front of his torso.
Amulet of Thoth in his form as a seated baboon, patron deity of scribes. The crescent & full moon on his head reflect his lunar connection. Dating from around the New Kingdom, the amulet is only 5.5 cm tall, and is in the collection at Manchester Museum. Photo Β© me

The papyrus is decorated with line drawings in black ink. Osiris is sitting on a throne, wearing the double crown of Egypt and holding a crook and flail as a symbol of royalty. In front of him is a large lotus flower with deities standing on top, and behind him a papyriform column. Along the top of the papyrus are some hieroglyphs and two rows of seated underworld deities. At the very top is a row of stars.
Osiris on his throne in the Hall of Judgement. Detail, just a few cm tall, from the Book of the Dead. The papyrus is broken where it was rolled up, and the fragments had slipped inside the glass, so I realigned them in Photoshop

Quite interesting, I'm familiar with simple copper 'tube' drills used with bows demonstrated by Denys Stocks, but this discovery shows there's much to be discovered by examining small objects in existing collections with modern techniques.

Howard Carter:
"Among all that regal splendour, there was nothing so beautiful as those few withered flowers. They told us what a short period 3,300 years really was."
A tiny floral wreath from a loved one connects us to our ancestors in a way that 'bling' just can't.
