I’ve spent most of 2026 so far asking people across Sunderland to write a letter to the city. It’s been extraordinary. We’re sharing what they had to say in a music & spoken word performance at Pop Recs at 6.30pm on 26 March.
Absolutely cracking short film by the brilliant @alisoncarr.bsky.social now on iPlayer. Weird, wonderful & packed full of gingers! Love it!

Still of Jessie from The Traitors with the subtitle of her saying, “And here they all come to chat a load of bollocks.”
Quote of the series. I might get a t-shirt printed.

Photo of darts player Justin Hood smiling and waving.
Sensational darts from Justin ‘Happy Feet’ Hood beating Josh Rock 4-0. At one point he was one dart away from winning with a 100% record on the doubles. One step nearer to his dream of winning enough prize money to open his own Chinese restaurant. I think I might have a new favourite darts player.
#BadLads is a powerful and important show, brilliantly performed. Theatre about a tough subject made with dignity and restraint. Also #BSL integrated.
Congrats to @graeaetheatre.bsky.social and @livetheatre.bsky.social. Catch it until 11 Oct!
Isn’t it?! Some crackers as ever, but this was my favourite today.
Photo of a crowd at Monument, Newcastle. Many carrying placards that say “No to racism. No to fascism.”
Photo of a protester in Newcastle holding a cardboard sign that says “Hadaway and shite, fascists.”
Proud to stand amongst 1000s of people in Newcastle today saying no to fascism.
Unfolding Theatre’s mission is to bring people together. We stand against hate. We are sad and troubled by far right protests planned in Newcastle this weekend. However, we are heartened by the actions of many people who work to build connections, understanding and support in the city.
Photo of a postcard stuck on a wall. The postcard is a picture of a French flag made from a patchwork of fabrics that says “La France est tissu de migrations”. France is woven from migration.
Holidays are great. Coming home to flags is weird. But here’s a good one I spotted in an anti-fascist café in a French village.
Peace, love and kindness everyone.
Thanks to @elijahyoung.bsky.social for this brilliant blog about last week's North East Culture Social. The event sparked inspiring, honest, open conversations about creative community projects & practice. Lots of things that I’m still thinking about a week on!
Selfie photo of two ginger women standing in St James’ Park - me on the left wearing my Newcastle strip, my mum on the right wearing glasses - both with Sam Fender levels of excitement on our faces.
Photo of a packed St James’ Park as dusk falls. Sam Fender and his band onstage and behind him, a big video screen with the word HOME on it.
Sam Fender with my mum. Amazing night! 🖤🤍
A group of six children stand in a line against a white wall, smiling and holding colourful props and wearing casual clothes. Bold white text over the image reads: "Be a Community Champion."
We are looking for a Community Champion to join us as at #NorthEastDeafYouthTheatre!
We are looking for deaf creatives who are based in the North East and have experience of - or are interested in - working with children and young people.
Find out more - www.unfoldingtheatre.co.uk/opportunities
You can read the policy at www.unfoldingtheatre.co.uk/working-with...
Thanks to my colleagues who helped research, write and develop this policy. It’s helped us think practically about what inclusivity looks like. And sadly it feels even more needed than when we first introduced it.

Really looking forward to hosting this event for community organisations and creatives in Newcastle. Not many tickets left. Get booking if you want to join the conversation. #NECultureSocial

On the telly! Super proud of the whole team who made this happen.
I feel lucky to have seen Mother Courage in Horden last night. Amazing company from East Durham and South Africa. Cracking performances, script and singing. Local. International. And all the more special for being shared in a church hall in Horden. 👏 👏 👏
Photograph of dancer Aakash Odedra, wearing white fabric swirling up red petals so they are floating in the air around him. Text at the bottom of the image says, Songs of the Bulbul.
I've just booked for 'Songs of the Bulbul' - part of Masala Festival at Theatre Royal this July. I saw Aakash Odedra's previous piece (also programmed by GemArts) last year, and it completely blew my mind. Treat yourself to something gorgeous.

Any man's death diminishes me,
Because I am involved in mankind.
And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls;
It tolls for thee.
John Donne
No man is an island,
Entire of itself;
Every man is a piece of the continent,
A part of the main.
If a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less,
As well as if a promontory were:
As well as if a manor of thy friend's
Or of thine own were.
Congrats to the team of #DogsOnTheMetro. Smart writing about the things that don’t get said after experiences of sexual violence. Important watch - and excellent direction and performances too.
Slack never helped me find any slack.
Who else is going to #DandD20 this weekend? See you there??
Great blog. My fave rejection was, “I’ve Googled you & read your reviews. Your work is obviously good but I’ve literally never heard of you.”
Making a difference is a funny one, eh? But your writing about collaboration & multiplying leadership inspired me. And I often ask, “Where’s the slack?!”
If you missed this last year, here’s another chance to see #Penguin. Beautiful brilliant show!
Aww, thanks Lee! And see you in a couple of weeks at D&D!
Great to be talking about ‘The Future of UK Youth Theatres’ today. Here’s something I wrote about the difference our youth theatres make to me every single day.
Cannot believe it!!! I’m with you on the bank holiday!!! Let’s do it!!
🖤🤍🖤🤍
I have no framework to compute what has just happened. Finally! #NUFC 🖤🤍🖤🤍
