They could have just quietly brought them home and put tracking and surveillance on them for a while. It might have made a minor news story months later, and after a spit of outrage, people would have found something else to get cranky about. The whole thing has been blown out of proportion.

I would argue the Labor government is already middle right, which is why the Libs are having trouble finding opposing arguments - all they have remaining is fascism.
