Read Fat Books: A Virtual Workshop We need more fat rep in publishing! How do we get there? Let's talk about it. Wednesday, 8/27 7-8:30 p.m. ET Free for $5 Bindery subscribers Sliding scale Free spots available Join Fat Forward Books founder and award-winning writer and editor Samantha Puc (she/they) for a deep dive into fat rep in contemporary lit. We'll discuss how to identify anti-fatness in our reading and critique it in reviews, interviews, and peer-to-peer dialogue, as well as how to push for positive change both on the page and behind the scenes.
Pricing - Subscribe to Fat Forward Books for $5 per month via the membership tab to get FREE access to this and future workshops and panels. - Sliding scale tickets for free subscribers and non-subscribers have three tiers: $9, $12, and $15. - Three free spots will be available to non-subscribers on a first-come, first-serve basis. Workshop Details - “Read Fat Books” is a 90-minute virtual workshop on Wednesday, August 27 from 7-8:30 p.m. ET. - The workshop is capped at 20 participants. Everyone who registers will receive a Zoom link via e-mail and a recording afterwards. - Bring your preferred writing or drawing materials! We will do some freewriting and/or drawing.
About Samantha Puc Samantha Puc (she/they) is a fat, disabled, lesbian writer and editor whose work focuses primarily on LGBTQ+ and fat representation in pop culture. They are an Eisner Award-winning journalist and Rotten Tomatoes-approved critic with bylines at The Beat, Publishers Weekly, Yes! Magazine, Polygon, and elsewhere. Samantha is the founder of Fat Forward Books, Community Voices Blog Editor at NAAFA, and a contributor to the award-winning Fat and Queer: An Anthology of Queer and Trans Bodies and Lives. They graduated in 2025 with a Master of Fine Arts degree in creative nonfiction from The New School. When Samantha is not working or writing, she loves spending time with her cats, reading, and perfecting her grilled cheese recipe.
About Fat Forward Books Fat Forward Books is a curated community space that celebrates books by fat authors, about fat experiences, and/or featuring fat characters across every genre and age group. Launched in May 2025 in partnership with tastemaker-led publisher Bindery Books, Fat Forward Books highlights front and backlist titles through reviews; guest essays; themed recommendation lists; author interviews; giveaways; and a monthly, virtual book club. Future plans include virtual panels with authors, creators, and publishing professionals, additional workshops, and more. Puc‘s ultimate goal is to grow Fat Forward Books into a publishing imprint under Bindery Books. The world needs more fat books, and they want to make that happen!
