The fact that she asked the question amd followed up by asking how I take care of myself reminded me of why I wanted to do this work in the first place. /3
Then after class one of my students lingered so we could chat. She asked me, "as someone who's been doing this work for years, how do you keep it from consuming you?"
I was honest. Its not easy and there are days when it does get to me...but I think the work is necessary /2
This week, my undergrad social inequality class covered "education and inequality." We read and watched short films about Black girls school discipline (and resistance), Asian Americans and the 'model minority myth' and residential boarding schools. Heavy topics all around.
