Respecting people's time is one of the core things behind building The Arab League of Misfits. It will never be a live service game, nor a predatory grind. Just a good solid fun game you can jump in for 10-15 minutes during your day, without any sense of FOMO.
All these games fail because they treat playtime as a full-time job. Time is the most valuable currency, and players cannot commit to five different battle passes at once. Investors/publishers cannot expect total devotion from a player base, and your dev team is not the reason for this failure.
I personally worked on 2 live service games in the past 5 years that both suffered the same faith. HAWKED is one I truly loved, and slowly died due to unreasonable metrics like retention in a world where time is the biggest currency, and impatient investors expecting success within days of launch.

Seems like the end state of the ongoing hatchet job to Xbox that’s been happening for the past few years post-Activision acquisition.
Makes me wonder how the commitment to indies will pan out now that leadership is the sort who’d likely be “just prompt it bro” instead of “here’s some life-changing pocket change to make something awesome”.
Xbox is off life support. It’s dead if this news is anything to go by. And I won’t be surprised if it’s a case of “AI and lay-off all the things” instead of “muh 30% margin”. Two of the senior most execs out a year before a rumoured new console launch is certainly a choice.
Also an AI, non-gaming exec shows how little MS cares about the legacy Xbox has to begin with. Should have been Bond or Booty. Not some random AI techie.
Makes me wonder if Microsoft is going to gut Xbox further with Bond out the door along with Spencer.

Not even bothering with that new report on the games biz from a guy who peddled metaverse FOMO a few short years ago. His observations are so 2000 and late for those of us who aren’t operating from a US lens.
The only good thing to come out of the RAMpocalyspse is a likely PS6 delay.
Games are barely scratching the surface of what's possible AND we're still paying close to launch PS5 prices without a permanent meaningful price drop.
