Yes: #NEH supports projects and moreover PEOPLE. Which is why it's all the more egregious that 1,400 grants were terminated and over 100 employees were fired in April 2025.
Support funding for NEH, but also please support justice for those who were economically harmed last year.

Anyone who cares about what happened to 70% of National Endowment for the Humanities staff who were terminated last year can comment on this proposed rule so that future civil servants don't lose their appeal protections as well. Info on how the public can comment in the next post. #NEH

$207 million in both 2023 and 2024 but ALSO 2025 due to the Continuing Resolution, and 2026 will most likely be not a huge drop in the end.
No reduction in budget these past several years!! And yet they fired almost all staff! #NEH

Reality of cuts to UConn research funds emerges. βThereβs justΒ this aura of awfulnessβ: professor.
In addition to funding availability,Β the federal government has limited the ability of researchers toΒ receive reimbursement forΒ indirect costs.
βWe got a one-sentence notice saying that the grant had been canceled, and there was no explanation given. There was no reasoning." - Jeffrey Dudas, @uconn.bsky.social professor & president of local @aaup.org, whose #NEH grant was terminated last April. #Connecticut

We think about how we upheld this declaration every day in our work as civil servants at the National Endowment for the Humanities. Every. day. for sixty years. 60! #NEH #humanities #democracy

Federal workers have high performance ratings b/c they are passionate about and committed to their work, full stop.
Yet while most National Endowment for the Humanities staff had high ratings because of their outstanding work overseeing #humanities grants, they were fired anyway. #NEH

Those of us who are left would love to see this (though at the end of the day we have no power about what to fund).

Doing the Lord's work right here; not just #DOGE staff, but a timeline of the National Endowment for the Humanities' destruction as well as other independent #culture and #arts agencies ( #Smithsonian #NGA #CPB etc.) #NEH Thanks, @jacobharr.is !

ICYMI: #DOGE bros broke into the National Endowment for the Humanities last year and terminated nearly all grants using #ChatGPT slop, and it would be hilarious had it not ended our civil servant careers and cost untold breakage to #humanities projects across the country. And for what? #NEH

Someone with such a huge platform as @theatlantic.com could have used said platform to make the case for federal funding for the arts and humanities and how it was a common good for ALL people and delve into what's happened to #NEH, #NEA, and #IMLS, but...nah.

A whole lotta words that could have instead been spent on how the National Endowment for the Humanities was gutted in order to serve a narrow ideological agenda, and how vile that is for the use of taxpayer monies. #NEH

We're the National Endowment for the Humanities, in case you've never heard of us. Or we were.
A budget that was a drop in the bucket & a staff of dedicated public servants who helped bring history and the #humanities to the American public.
Please, keep learning and sharing about us. #NEH

Congress paused all federal layoffs for 3 months. That's set to change this week
A ban on agency RIFs is scheduled to be lifted after Feb. 13.
It's been 10 months to the day since the National Endowment for the Humanities laid off the vast majority of its staff.
These drastic, unnecessary, and costly - yes, millions of taxpayer $$! - actions that are destroying the federal government need to "pause" for good. #NEH

Screencapped statement from the American Council of Learned Societies' 2025-2030 Strategic Framework: "ACLS has continued to fight for NEH grantees through litigation. Most recently, we appealed the courtβs ruling on some of our claims challenging the dismantling of NEH funding programs and reduction of NEH staff. Weβre also continuing to press our claim that DOGE acted without appropriate authority in terminating awards."

"A final regulation from [OPM]...empowers Trump to reclassify federal policy-influencing employees into a new 'policy/career' category from which he could fire them at will."
This has been happening in non-policy roles across the government for an entire year now. Civil servants deserve better.
