Red Sox LHP Payton Tolle debuted a reworked changeup today. He only threw 3, but the spin rate was substantially lower than where it was last year & is now very splitter like. It will be interesting to see where its shape settles as he throws it more this spring.
Following a National Championship at LSU, RHP Anthony Eyanson was selected 87th overall by the Red Sox in the 2025 MLB Draft.
He tells SoxProspects.com's @ByAndrewParker, his unexpected fall in the draft just made him hungry for more.
He wasnβt in consideration really. Itβs a tough profile as a 5-11 R/R first baseman with average at best offensive tools. Solid depth player with some upside though so for Gray, heβs a fine return.
New Red Sox C/1B Nate Baez hit .278/.371/.423 in 396 PA between A+/AA. Rule 5 eligible, went unselected. Patient approach, solid underlying contact data. Average power, good angles. 86% zone-contact, 104.4 90th EV. Had struggled w/velo. Hit LHP well in '25. More of a 1B than C.

Incredible performance by JosΓ© De LeΓ³n in his first MLB appearance since 2023. This was the longest outing of his MLB career and only the second time heβs thrown 6 innings or more. Remarkably, the other time was his MLB debut for the Dodgers, all the way back in September 2016.
Red Sox starter Lucas Giolitoβs stuff was down across the board that inning. Every pitch was down at least 2 mph compared to his season average. Something to monitor as this outing goes on.
Really impressive outing from Red Sox LHP Kyle Harrison: 6 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K. 86p/60s. Ability to locate fastball was the key. FB zone% & whiff% were both higher than during his time in Worcester. That efficiency allowed him to work 6 innings for the first time since 7/22.

Hereβs video of every pitch from Red Sox RHP Luis Peralesβs electric debut tonight for Worcester: 1 IP, 3 K. 11 pitches/10 strikes.
Two edits: it was 6 cutters and weβre calling it a splitter not a changeup
Red Sox RHP Luis Perales struck out the side in his Triple-A debut, on 11 pitches, without throwing a single fastball. He got 2 strikeouts on sliders & 1 on a changeup. Overall, he threw 5 cutters, 3 sliders & 2 changeups. CT 90-92, SL 86-88 & CH 83-84. 5 whiffs: 3 CT, 1 CH, 1 SL
Red Sox OF Jhostynxon Garcia was removed from the game after the bottom of the 4th here in Worcester. He beat out an infield 1B & then went first to third, but didnβt come out in the top of the 5th. Didnβt notice anything when he was running the bases, but something to monitor.
Red Sox RHP Luis Perales worked around a walk in his 1st inning back with Portland since TJ surgery. He threw 16 pitches total, 8 for strikes. Fastball was 97-100 on the stadium gun & cutter was 91-93. Also showed slider & splitter.
LHH: F7 on 3-2 FB
RHH: BB on 3-1 CT
RHH: 6-4-3 on 1-2 SL
