As we prepare to close out 2025 and welcome a new year, the CPR Family would like to take a moment to acknowledge the hardships that this year has presented to our communities as we wish you and yours a happy and peaceful holiday season.
The New York City Council is considering a bill that would require the NYPD to grant direct access to bodycam footage to the CCRB, the city's police watchdog agency.
The police can't be trusted to police themselves. We must keep fighting for police transparency and accountability.
Police sexual violence is an insidious problem impacting NYers across all communities. Our new report with CUNY Graduate Centerβs Public Science Project exposes how police sexual violence is one of the largest threats to public safety in NYC. Learn more at bit.ly/psvinnyc
Police sexual violence impacts nearly 1 in 5 NYers yet <1% of police officers who commit acts of sexual violence are held accountable. This is a crisis that must be addressed through oversight, transparency & accountability. Read our new report bit.ly/psvinnyc & read the article at bit.ly/nycpsvam

By arresting a child with legal status at a routine check-in, ICE acted with brazen cruelty, broke U.S. law, and violated the Constitution.
The Trump administration should expect to keep seeing us in court if they continue to punish people for following the rules.
Wayne Isaacs killed #DelrawnSmall in front of his baby nearly a DECADE ago. Now, Isaacs & his lawyers are trying to get off free - again.
π’ Join Delrawnβs family TOMORROW Nov. 13 at 10:30am at 1 Police Plaza to demand @NYPDPC Tisch uphold the charges & finally #FireWayneIsaacs!
In response to Zohran Mamdani's historic win CPR released a statement from spokespersonΒ Sala Cyril, lead organizer with Malcom X Grassroots Movement.
As we usher in a new administration we urge himΒ to prioritize the safety, dignity, & rights of all NYers. Read our statement at bit.ly/cprmayor2025
"26 Federal Plaza isnβt functioning as a courthouse. Itβs functioning as an abduction trap. And as an inhumane de facto jail." - @nyccomptroller.bsky.social
We're suing the Trump administration over their - illegal - policy of arresting people for appearing in court. And we won't back down.

Just last week @legalaidnyc.bsky.social said βItβs being used in neighborhoods that are traditionally overpoliced...thatβs where theyβre using their discretion the most to enforce these kind of low level offenses" in response to police issuing more civil summonses.

The last thing we need at a time when overpolicing is prevalent in our communities is the addition of NYPD officers. Even as an outgoing mayor, Eric Adams is committed to expanding and bolstering the NYPD.

In 2019, NYPD Lt. Rivera beat, tased, shot + killed #AllanFeliz during an unjust traffic stop. 6 years later, Rivera has faced ZERO consequences. This cannot stand! On 10/16 12pm, join the Feliz family as they remember Allan & announce next steps in their fight for accountability
NEW: We've received reports that ICE agents are unlawfully banning ALL books from entering the Buffalo Federal Detention Facility. Titles include a dictionary, religious books - even a Sudoku puzzle book.
This is a blatant First Amendment violation. The facility must change course, now.
Today, New York City and the NYPD will enter into phase two of the Payne settlement, the 2023 landmark agreement reforming the NYPDβs protest policing reached with the NYCLU, @legalaidnyc.bsky.social, @newyorkstateag.bsky.social, and others.β
Here's what you should know π§΅
We refuse to be intimidated by the Trump administrationβs attacks on our rights and communities.
Join us on Saturday, October 18 for the NYC No Kings march:
NYers are surrounding 26 Fed Plaza right now with clear demands:
π§Get #ICEOutOfNY & release all immigrants detained at 26 Federal Plaza;
πͺNo federal troops in NYC;
π¦Pass #NY4All & the NYC Trust Act.
Itβs time for our leaders to take action to protect ALL New Yorkers, including immigrants.
100s of protesters standing outside with their fists up - in focus is 5 individuals holding the banner for βJews for Racial and Economic Justiceβ
On a wired fence outside 26 Federal Plaza hang posters with the faces and names of individuals kidnapped and detained by ICE
Image of the JFREJ contingent for the ICE out of NY rally, holding the Jews for Racial and Economic Justice Banner
Sign that says βBring Dylan Home, High School Student, Son, Brotherβ
JFREJ joined 100s in NYC today to demand #ICEoutofNY #AbolishICE
Take action and call @governor.ny.gov Governor Kathy Hochul at 518-474-8390 and tell her to pass NY4AllβΌοΈ

Our rights don't disappear when we interract with immigrant officers.
Make sure you know your rights:
Oliver Mata Velazquez is a 19-year old asylum seeker. When he showed up for his mandatory immigration court hearing in Buffalo in June, ICE agents illegally snatched him.
The NYCLU, Prisonersβ Legal Services of New York, and @rfkhumanrights.bsky.social sued. And we won his release.
We know that more police do not keep us safe, yet
Mayor Adams and Police Commissioner Tisch continue to expand NYPD presence in our communities, which we know disproportionately harms and targets NYers in our vulnerable communities.

Our client Carlos Lopez Benitez is reunited with his sisters and community after being detained for two harrowing weeks in both NY & Texas!
Thanks to our legal teamβs swift action & submission of a habeas petition arguing his right to due process was violated, a federal judge ordered his release. π§΅
Over the last few months, the trans community has seen an increase in policy attacks, with 950+ pieces of legislation being introduced across the country that enable trans erasure. #TransLatinxMarch
πͺ In the face of attacks against our communities, we say:

"ICE arrests jumped 46% this May, to 409 up from 281 last year. In the first 10 days of June, ICE agents in NYC made 495 arrestsβ more than 2x the 247 arrests it made in all of June last year.β
πSee how ICE's access to our immigration courts is increasing this trend.

β We are facing the most brazen rollback of civil rights in generations. The same forces that used violence against John Lewis are back, with billionaire backers and authoritarian ambition.
Join us July 17 at 5:30pm in Foley Sq because #GoodTroubleLivesOn.
π€ Wear white and bring flowers!
The detentions occurring inside NYC immigration courts often have no legal basis & detainees are routinely denied the right to due process or even given access to legal advice.
These out-of-control ICE arrests have no place in our city.
@cmalexaaviles.bsky.social @phara4assembly.bsky.social
Itβs ironic that Nassau County Exec Bruce Blakeman β who fought relentlessly to ban people from wearing masks β is now pushing to allow police officers to wear a mask whenever they please.
So, a masked police officer could legally arrest someoneβ¦for wearing a mask. The hypocrisy is astounding.
