The anti-drone lasers that have recently caused so much stupid kerfuffle at the Mexican border are *specifically* intended to take down drones at a much lower cost than missile interceptors.
Wonder why we havenβt heard anything about the U.S. using them in the Gulf against Iranian drones yet.
I *really* dislike the deployment of World War II, USA on Japan rhetoric, here, for reasons obvious (nukes, maximalist, not helpful) & otherwise.
Esp given USA did not in fact demand unconditional surrender (as indicated by Potsdam Declaration βHere are our termsβ¦β & Byrnes noteβ).
1/n
A prime example is Marco Rubio acting all shocked Pikachu that several countries closed airspace after the war began
βMAGAβs fundamental shared quality is a total lack of theory of mind for other peopleβ is a theory that keeps getting validated by reality - look at almost every decision theyβve made in the war with Iran, and how they seem constantly surprised by the unanticipated actions of other parties.
Same, kitty.
You canβt kill their religious leader, carpet bomb their city and kill 160 people at a primary school and just expect Iran to be like βokay we giveβ
βIran rejected the ceasefireβ yeah I fucking bet they did- why would they ever negotiate with the US again??
I think it's nice that we can export incredible aspects of our culture like large parking lots. I hope this city planner has lined up some "long-time residents" to talk about how this beautiful canvas of pavement is integral to the character of their community.
The recall includes rice and dumpling products at Trader Joe's and Krogers.
After an investigation, it was found that the carrots used in the products were the likely source of the glass fragments.
No, the source was insufficient food safety procedures.
I want us to live in a world where we all have the ability and opportunity to work. Or where work is irrelevant and we're all cared for and financially secure.
Nobody wants to build option 2, so we probably should not let them destroy option 1.
I realise that we're all really bad at avoiding things just because other people say they're bad.
But seriously. We don't all need to touch this particular stove to know it's too hot. We could, in fact learn from everyone else's comments on it.
IMHO every stove-touch legitimizes the stove.
What if we just did not engage with the job-killing machine?
I blocked him and i suggest everyone here do the same. He used an computer program to generate a hate-read post. Has no respect for you or himself.
well this seems awkward

Whoever's keeping records for all the future trials of these maniacs better hire more staff.
I started reading this a few weeks ago, by Iranian-Canadian lawyer and professor Payam Akhavan. He was lawyer at the ICTY and ICC, and other tribunals. His story is the human side of atrocity, Iranian history, and war crimes trials.
I don't think I could have picked a more apt book for today.
HEY LATE NIGHT WEIRDOS
Do you like horror?
Do you like GOTHIC horror?
Do you like SAPPHIC gothic horror?
If you said yes to all of the above, you'll love Woman of Sorrow and Blood
My grandparents also complained about that.
And in high school I did a research paper about the Vietnam war for a history teacher who was a veteran of it. It did not go well for me.
I think that American culture, at least, has been terrible about studying history for decades.
I feel as if people are losing touch with history but I suspect what I'm actually feeling is the slipping out of living memory of events I'm used to being able to just talk to people about.
I'm also becoming history myself... people are often wrong about stuff I was at.
But...
Question for Americans specifically, do you think of this current period of time as notably more ahistorical compared to past decades? (Also, while I'm looking for gut intuition answers, if sociologists or other academics have recommendations for reading about this, I'd love to see it!)
I appear to be going to bed at normal hours?
It's pretty great.
Brain still hurts a lot of the time, but i'm coping and the sun is out for longer, too.
Saw the "OMG why are 40 & 50 year old people even ON social media?" post & my first thought was, "What do you think *should* happen, kid? Should we all just do a Logan's Run?" & then I realized this child has never once in their life heard of Logan's Run & I turned to dust & my ghost is typing this.

update: it went exactly as we all knew it would
instagram just showed me an advertisement for an enamel pin replica of the nazi party logo, what the actual fuck is that platform
Yeah. I'm very unimpressed.
Marginalized groups deserve to not be misrepresented.
Iran: look, it's simple. We literally just paint the silhouette of a plane on the ground. We literally just nail together some boxes in the shape of a tank. We literally just pull looney tunes shit. Their AI will make them spend $100 million to destroy $5 of arts and crafts.
the US: grok is this
That was always going to be the point of the βAI system.β So they could deliberately blow up hospitals and schools and blame the AI. It doesnβt matter what the AI says - human beings need to validate targets under the laws of land warfare.
