How about Boys in the Boat? Not officially a memoir, it’s narrative nonfiction, but does focus primarily on one person’s life. I enjoyed the young reader edition (which I’ve heard is tighter than the original). Definitely a fast and exciting read! Good luck!

This makes me want to go back to the classroom so I can steal this unit. Incredible and inspiring. Thank you for sharing your time and talent.

Some of my colleagues and I make our own planners, bc our school is on a 6-day cycle, so the class/duty schedule changes each week.

It’s a MASSIVE pain to create… but once it’s done? Amazing. Can’t recommend it enough! Hope you enjoy your custom planner as much as I enjoy mine!

Super interested in this! Hope you’ll consider sharing the process in a blog post or on a website after you’ve presented it at a conference!

Do you have a Librarian one? Leave out the eye bags, stack of papers, and edits to the title and the rest is the same! 🀣

Yep, that’s me: all training, plus certification in 3 states, plus masters was for elementary Ed. I’m also in San Diego, where most elementary schools don’t even have librarians 😭😩so it’s waaay off most ppls radar! Wish my school might pay for my MLIS, but afraid they’ll think I’ll jump ship!

Did you say β€œlibrary guinea pigs”? And they recommend books?! πŸ’€
Please more library guinea pig content! 😍

I agree, but it’s tricky. When the only path to be certified is a Masters program and many important skills are learned on the job, it’s tough to justify.

Full disclosure: I’m a non-certified school librarian (private school). Would I love to be certified? Yes! Do I want a 2nd Master’s? Nope.

The NAEP proficiency myth | Brookings There are many common misunderstandings about the educational standards set by the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP). Most importantly, the β€œproficient” rating on the NAEP does no...

β€œNAEP proficient is not synonymous with grade level. NAEP officials urge that proficient not be interpreted as reflecting grade level work. It is a standard set much higher than that. Scholarly panels have reviewed the NAEP achievement standards and found them flawed.”

When I see anyone refer to the β€œfact” that 65% of kids are not proficient readers, I don’t trust anything else they say. This is either a misunderstanding or a misrepresentation of the NAEP data. Since it is easy to figure this out, they are either idiots or lying.

Currently reading Rouge by Mona Awad… didn’t know anything about it except that it’s the current pick for NYPL Get Lit book club (last month’s pick was Yellowface which I could not put down!) Just started it yesterday and it’s SO good! Mesmerizing! 😍
