A short film about endometriosis has won a BAFTA, bringing much needed visibility to the disabling condition.
Endometriosis and adenomyosis robbed me of years of my life.
Countless surgeries, blood transfusions and hospital stays.
Doctors saying it was “no big deal”.
It’s a very big deal:
People often ask what accessibility considerations to keep in mind when creating data visualizations. For guidance and advice, check out Sarah L. Fossheim's list of 10 things to do (or not do) when designing accessible data visualizations.

Disabled people remember how Heather Humphreys handled the Green Paper, dismissing campaigners and ignoring requests to meet. In contrast, Catherine Connolly has shown real engagement and respect. That’s the leadership we deserve in the Áras.
Have a lot in common with Fianna Fáil, in that we're both trying to partner with a fine Gael
A new paper I wrote with an awesome team of researchers and artists is out today. It's about the value of art-science initiatives developed in Irish Sign Language (and sign languages in general). jcom.sissa.it/article/pubi...
“EVERY SINGLE organisation in the UK led by disabled people is against the (assisted dying) bill”
I urge everyone to read @natebear1.bsky.social latest - and then listen to disabled people in Canada who are begging you to see the coercion & abuse happening here 🧵
Photo of Violet affleck in jeans and an apron that says “midnight mission”. She’s wearing a white N95 and glasses and a hair net
Violet Affleck showing us all how it’s done. Wearing an N95 while assisting at a mission food service.
She has repeatedly pointed out that the least fortunate in society are the MOST at risk for COVID - and understands the importance of breaking chains of transmission.
“If you were really THAT sick you’d be:”
In hospital
Have full time care
Be getting ‘fixed’
Trying harder
Getting financial help
Dead
The list goes on & on.
We ARE that sick & none of these options apply because our systems are broken & ableism is rampant.

Disability is the club we can all join at any time so if not for me do it for yourself. Say no to FF/FG/Aontú and the scores of chaos independents.
We have to fight in every aspect of our lives. We have to fight against government just to survive. Please when you go to polls tomorrow, think of this. Decades of FF/FG have actively made my life and the lives of so many much worse.
Life as a disabled and chronically ill person in Ireland is unnecessarily hellish and difficult. Most of us live in forced poverty, on years long waiting lists for services, having to travel abroad and fundraise for basic healthcare. Isolated in so many ways.
'More than 1,900 parents over the age of 70 are currently caring for their intellectually disabled sons and daughters at home.471 are in their 80s and 90s.' Excellent forensic analysis of key issues relating to Disability Sector from

Disabled folk shouldn't have to wait for a seat at the table where everyone else is already eating.
Accessibility shouldn't be an afterthought nor an add-on. Accessibility should be on the mind of every builder, game designer, artist. Every employer and decisionmaker.
We belong IN society.
Fellow chronically ill people - how do you cope when the pain won’t stop and it’s all just getting you down?
Pain relief isn’t working and it’s just really getting to me that this is my life, so any words of wisdom would be much appreciated 💜

Man to me, a wheelchair user: “I’m so sorry for you. It must be horrible to live like that.”
Ableism boils down to the simple false belief that disabled people and disabled lives are lesser and inferior.
It is dehumanizing and devaluing.
Its harm is unmistakable and immeasurable.
