I think some people hear “grants” and think that without them, scientists and government workers just have less stuff to play with at work. But grants fund salaries for students, academics, researchers, and people who work in all areas of public service.
“Pausing” grants means people don’t eat.
I mentioned on the Facebook post about this, too - the folk song The Piper's Refrain is about Duncan and includes some (though not all) of the details of the legend discussed in the episode.

Yeah, that's a thing for sure and very maddening.
Politics-wise it's really hard to tell what the repercussions will be and how to fight it.
OTOH, we can see that a lot of fascists feel empowered to be more open about who they are due to the election and we can do something about that right now.
