Was looking for this mention! Here's the actual design it's based on, scanned from Judson Beaumont's book
Thanks for the shoutout! Worked on this one for ages trying to piece together all the different threads of influence that formed this style -- it's honestly still one of my all-time favorites
oh yeah ive got that one! I haven't gotten around to scanning it though, it just takes so long lol -- but yea it is absolutely filled with a variety of 90s design
Unfortunately I haven't come almost any alton towers designs in books at all, wish there was more info available
Thanks to max for including me in his excellent documentary, please be sure to check it out!
Here's a ton more images, and a little blurb on the mall from one of the books - www.tumblr.com/evan-collins...
Scanned a bunch of images of Valencia Town Center mall from the time of it's opening in 1992 -- including a mysterious 'time capsule / floor clock' (img 1 & 4). I can't find a single mention anywhere except for one of the books I scanned these images from. Anyone remember it?
I was able to take a short trip to Chicago this past week to record a podcast episode on one of my favorite styles to research, Whimsicraft!
Please be sure to check it out, and thanks to the hosts for having me on!

Crespi Bonsai (Bonsai tree store) - Via Boccaccio, 4, Milan IT (1991)
Designed by Donatella Borgoglio Motta
Scanned from the book, Nuovi Negozi in Italia 3 (New Shops in Italy 3)(1995)
Love the exterior and some elements on the interior; I dunno, it just seems like most places go like 70% of the way and then stop -- it's just still slightly too sparse
The Visual Merchandising & Store Design (VM&SD) mag issue I scanned these from had these two first images showing the merch in regular lighting conditions vs. intended UV lighting for display/sales purposes.
Forgotten Retail: Glow! (1996-2004) store - designed by Richard Altuna
In 1996 Spencer's Gifts spun-off a line of stores singularly dedicated to glow-in-the-dark black light products; opening this first store in Universal's CityWalk complex.
*Hoping to switch fully to posting here from now on!
Unfortunately I've never found any images of Seminole Town Center; I have found quite a few Burdines though, love their design with those PoMo palms!
very late to this (just joined finally!) but I have a huge CARI patreon archive of my scans (~700+ books & mags) -- also if you're looking for anything in particular I can see if I have it in the collection
