Drumrolls, please! I’m thrilled to share the cover for my forthcoming #book from @doubledaybooks.bsky.social
(Penguin Random House), #PROPHECY. This is the best book I’ve written: the boldest, the most innovative, the most personal. I have poured my soul into it like never before. 1/

This is slightly old news, but now that I have access to Bluesky again, I'm going to take the opportunity to flag my most recent publication 'Longtermism and Aggregation' at PPR. I first drafted this paper years ago, so it's great to finally see it out!

I've just managed to guess my bluesky password, having been locked out of my account for about a year! Hello all!

Just uploaded my thesis onto philpapers. In it, I explore, defend and extend the moral reasons we have to do less than best.

Any recommendations for work in philosophy of biology, broadly construed?

Generally just looking for interesting work I mightn’t have seen, in any topic. I’m in a place where I just want to do some reading!

A grad student asked me to clarify my attitudes towards academic Philosophy:

Love the discipline
Wary of the profession
Dislike the business

For the first time in a while I am so excited to start a new research project. It feels like the first day of school. How do I begin? Go out and buy new highlighters and pukka pads, like I did when I was 15?

The people I asked were mostly childless, so this likely explains the difference

This has been such a useful resource when it came to try
to rebuild my Twitter philosophy network on BlueSky. Thank you!

Fascinating. On Bluesky the results almost seem reversed? IRL I’ve asked ~60 people and *all* women said 10-20 and *almost all* men said 0-10. On Bluesky, thus far, the gender split (which is much less stark) seems to go the other way around.

β€˜Difference’ was left intentionally ambiguous, so I could see the variety of interpretations - if that helps!

Ok, so I’ve been asking the following question to groups of people for a few months now. Surprisingly, I’ve noticed an almost perfect gender split.

β€œBetween which ages is there a greater β€˜difference’: 0 and 10, and 10 and 20?”

Any guesses to how the responses are split? And potential explanations?

Struggling with this app, maybe because the philosophy community isn’t established here yet.

Can I get recommendations on who I should follow? #philsky #philosophy

Passed my PhD viva without corrections yesterday! Now I’m planning my future work.

It’s a weird feeling putting four years of research to bed.

I think for me the paralysis comes from being β€œobviously wrong”. I don’t mind being wrong in some interesting, useful manner. But the idea of producing work that has some clear flaw everyone else can see immediately gives me shivers.

Hello blue sky, brief introductions: I’m Emma, a philosopher at Cambridge. I principally work in nonconsequentialist ethics, especially as applied to the domains of private philanthropy, healthcare and public policy.

Expect mostly philosophy positing, occasional real life stuff.
