"Manchesterism is the polar opposite of Westminsterism", says Andy Burnham at Centre for Cities event
Deeply worrying that a government minister is calling making an application for asylum "abuse". One of the most nonsensical uses of the word "abuse" I have encountered in a crowded field
My latest column is about how a particularly good coat can change your life

@shuhbillskee.bsky.social Hi Andrew! Could you possibly follow me back so I can DM you with an enquiry related to a project I'm working on? Thanks so much
My new column's out. I wrote it somewhere between the shock at losing Cinnamon just before Christmas, and giving Stig all the love for as long as he's here with me.

Perfectly normal day for Harry and Meghan who I am absolutely sure are not dancing around their house to Taylor Swift's Karma
It is really infuriating to see how misogyny really does unite men across the sociopolitical spectrum. And, in so far as the Epstein files go, they sort women into two categories: fuckable or irrelevant. When they near a hint of accountability they complain about not being able to make women prey.
At the time I spoke to them they were worried, but didn't provide any evidence of it happening. But it's clear that the massive safeguarding risks of the scheme have not been properly considered
People I spoke to from NGOs were concerned that the "one-in-one-out" scheme might directly incentivise the trafficking of women and children, as only single men can be detained and deported, which could encourage smugglers to create false family compositions.

Not a single UK politician at the moment has an ounce of this man's charm. Bring back charisma! Especially on the left!

A year ago I rather foolishly posted this about what a miserable January we had all had. Little did I know then that January 2025 was positively utopian in comparison to absolute bin-fire that January 2026 has been
Masked government agents arresting journalists is not a sign things are improving.
Really interesting to see a total counterweight to the rest of Europe's migration crackdownβSpain proposing to regularise the status of 50,000 undocumented people

Spoiler: it is not a very enjoyable experience!
My latest column is about what happens when you finish a year of travel and adventure to return to a very rainy South London in January

It's a knock-off green dryrobe type thing with white fleece inside. It's the best thing that's ever happened to me
I am currently enjoying the thrill of owning such a great new coat that it is actually sparking conversation with strangers, like having a dog or baby. Three women have enquired about my coat in public in the last 48 hours and googled it on the spot. Not sure I'll ever feel joy like this again
An absolute nightmare for the 'London has fallen' brigade
"What will I do when they start murdering civilians & blatantly lying about it?"
I think a lot of people will, somewhere deep inside, be surprised to discover their actual answer to this question. Mostly 'free speech' campaigners, terminally online 'classical liberals' & self-styled 'libertarians'.
The sheer number of videos of the shooting is horrific, but in the vein of what @prisonculture.bsky.social has been saying, it proves how many people cared enough to show up where ICE was and record them. It wasn't just one or two legal observers, and when Good was shot, they didn't abandon her.
will also add - yes, this is my personal crusade - that turning podcasts into videos implicitly asks women to once again make more effort than men, as the bar for "camera-ready" for one gender is obviously higher than for the other
I fear for people relying on AI for mental health advice, writes @sarahelizacollins.bsky.social.
Such brilliant news about Britain rejoining Erasmus! So many young people have missed out on what is a genuinely life enhancing experience
