There’s an episode of Star Trek TNG called Conspiracy where a species of parasitic alien critters that crawl inside your mouth and puppet master your body try to take over Starfleet. The phot is of one of those guys in an LED-lit display case with a box made to look like an old Playmates Star Trek toy box. The creature is kind of pink and purple and it has big pincers, six legs and a pointy tail that ultimately pokes out the back of the neck of the victims of this type of parasite. That’s how you can tell. My podcast cohost Adam and I bought the mold of the original creature and made our own, so this is 1:1 accurate to the original, and I am a gigantic dork if you were still wondering.

I'm sorry if I sounded like I was downplaying the experiences of trans men or the bigotry they certainly face.

"Given a pass" was too strongly worded, but I think it's objectively true that the majority of negative rhetoric, and apparently transphobic thought, is focused on trans women over trans men, and I posited a reason for the distinction rooted in patriarchal thought.

That is the official position, but speaking strictly to the clip, it seems he was confused by the notion that trans men would use women's rooms. It's a common blind spot in transphobes so I'm assuming it happened here. They often focus exclusively on policing trans women and give trans men a pass.

The category of men. The club, the good place, take your pick. The man was shocked because he implicitly considered trans men to be men and couldn't imagine that they would have to use the women's.

So many of these bigots find trans women uniquely disturbing because they have rejected the gift of masculinity. Trans men are seeking to be masculine, which is right and proper, so they can be allowed in as a kindness. But trans women foolishly reject the gift and must be protected from themselves.
